“Rough Diamond”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

Great Fish & Chips!! Arctic Char is my favorite. Service with a friendly scowl, but really deep down they are wonderful people!! We’ve taken friends from across Canada and everyone raves about the fish! Pricy yes, but the fish is worth every $$, not sure the $10/bottle of wobbly pop is worth it. Love the place can’t wait for my next trip to YK ! You either love the atmosphere or not so much, truly a rough in the diamond or something like that!!

“Lots of quirky atmoshere”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

This is a funny place, kind of a dive, but with fancy prices. The famous fish was very good, as it should be for about $30. It was served with hand cut (but average) fries and a simple salad. The sauces were a highlight, really exceptional. Service was uneven. Our table was dirty, never cleaned off from the previous customers but the waitress gave us a huge stack of napkins. Do it yourself table cleaning?

“fun, and good food!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Insanely busy, loud & slow service BUT the cook was friendly & charmed us & the "writing on the wall" (literally) was fun to read while we waited. The fish was spectacular and we were glad we went. NOTE: not for people who would be offended by rude bumper stickers etc ;)

“Really OVER -Rated for tourists”
Reviewed July 17, 2014

Great fish but very expensive. Crappy attitude of the wait staff is supposed to be "funny" or appealing. This place sucks. Spend your tourist dollars here if you want but you would be better to spend it elsewhere.
Don't take your kids. Apparently it is OK to use profanity to tell customers off. HA HA (not!)
And having the cook staff(we watched this happen) out at the garbage did not seem very healthy or clean for the customers
Many other places in yellowknife have fresh fish. Just look around

“Somewhat overrated!”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

Don't get me wrong! They had the best fish and chips that I have ever eaten. But the price was outrageous! I spent almost $30 for the fish and chips and that was lunch! In addition, I had to take a taxi to and from town and that was $10 one way, so I actually paid $50 for the meal! I think the prices are the same for dinner. You can have other kinds of fish served in a variety of ways and it still costs the same amount. It is in an area surrounded by fish, so I really don't know why it costs that much. They serve the fish with a large serving of salad. It's a very comfortable place, and you just throw your wraps on this bench and seat yourself. It's small and if you get there right at mealtime, you may have to wait. It's best to get there when they just open. You can leave your mark there by writing on the walls and ceiling. Bring a Sharpie! The place actually looks like a hole in the wall from the outside and inside, but the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. If you sit at the counter, you can see everything being prepared. Even the bucket slides across the floor and lands underneath the lever where the whole potato slices into French fries. If money is no object, I'd say "Go for it!"
