“A Great Stay”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We stayed at Arden Ave B & B for four nights in early March 2013.

We found the accommodation excellent, and enjoyed our stay a great deal. (It helped that we scored 3 out of 3 on Aurora viewing nights).

Ian, the owner, was a wonderful host. We were pleasantly surprised when he picked us up at the airport, as we had told him we would take a taxi. (It’s not normally part of the service unless you arrange it in advance). He also took us for an extended tour of Yellowknife on his way to pick up his son from a friend’s house.

When the booking for one of our Aurora tour nights was messed up, he quickly got on the phone to his old friend Joe of North Star Adventures (also a nice guy who goes the extra yards), and was able to get us on that night’s viewing, even though it was an extremely busy time for tour operators.

Arden Ave B & B is in the suburbs, and not a downtown location. But that has the advantage of it being a very quiet area. There is a bus at the end of the street, and a taxi ride downtown is only about $15. Both North Star and Becks have a pickup service from Arden Ave.

We are more than happy to recommend this accommodation.

This is a good basic "do-it-yourself" B&B and for $110/night you can't beat it! There are three rooms available, one with a private ensuite. Bed was comfortable and location quiet. A large shared lounge offers tv, dvd's, & Yellowknife info. There is a coffee maker, kettle, toaster,& fridge. The hostess sets out a selection of coffee, juice, fruits, baking, cereals, bread, yogurt, etc. for breakfast whenever you are ready. This suited us perfectly as some mornings we had to be out early and others were a slower start and could lounge over coffee. Free wifi, a phone for outgoing calls and a fitness room. Keyed entry separate from home. NOTE: This B&B is in a residential neighborhood so this should be a consideration if you don't have a vehicle. However, shopping area was an easy walk of a half hour.

Room Tip: I had the Ensuite room - All are good though!

Selected this B&B as it was one of the few available that also offered a queen sized bed with ensuite. We were happily surprised with our choice.

Home was clean, quiet, and in a nice residential neighbourhood. The host, Connie, even came into our room while we were out to tidy up and provide us with fresh towels! We had the room with private ensuite and access to free wireless internet for our laptop, which was great. Having a separate entrance to our room was also convenient.

Continental breakfast was nicely laid out each morning so we could eat when we wanted and what we wanted. Breads, pastries, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, juice, milk, coffee and tea were perfect to start the day with. There was even a fridge we could store our water in.

Not knowing where to stay in Yellowknife, we were very pleased with our stay and the reasonable rate we paid.

This is one of the best B&B's I've stayed in on travels throughout North America. Separate entrance for the guests. Large bedrooms. Tastefully decorated. Spotlessly clean beds, floors, and shared bathroom. One bedroom has an ensuite bathroom if that is your preference. Large living-room, television, videos for the guests use - separate in the basement from the hosts' family living quarters on the main floor.

The hosts were extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. On one evening, two unexpected calls came well after 10 p.m. and Connie quickly made arrangements to provide rooms and wait up for them at the late hour. They each had been turned away at an overbooked hotel and referred to this B&B.

Breakfast was plentiful and continental style so that you could help yourself at any hour.

Easy to locate. Directions were accurate. I highly recommend this B&B.
