Although I have the greatest respect for Mr Becks and his champion dog sled teams, the experience on the sled was not that great. Big sleds so they can fit up to 5 people at the same time, make it difficult for everyone but the person in front to fully enjoy the experience of being pulled by a team of dogs. There was no explanation on dog sledding. Tour is on the lake next to the kennel, and takes about 30 mins. Majority Japanese tourists when we were there. The process of picking people up from hotels, arriving on site, untill you get told it is your turn to go, and afterwards waiting to be brought back does not feel overly organised, but this could be because we were there in a peak period (just after New Year). Takes about 2.5-3 hrs for a total 30 mins on the track. Important to bring warm clothes, facial protection and preferably a pair of goggles (which I luckily read on Tripadvisor).

If you are just visiting Yellowknife, and have never been on a dogsled, go and do it, reasonable for the price. If you also visit other places, pay a bit more and take for example a Snowy Owl tour in Canmore. Much more personal, great and enjoyable explanation of dog sledding techniques and dogs' behaviour, so a better experience but at higher cost.

We took the traditional dog sled tour. It was a lot of fun. The people from Beck's Kennels are very friendly and helpful. Strongly recommend!

My friends and I signed up for the "drive your own dog team".

Paying $75 (NOT including tax or the transportation fee of $5 if they pick you up) to get rushed around is not worth it. Every process between the stations (from leaving our transportation to the payment building to the changing of clothes to the super short demonstration of how to handle the dog sled), was carried out as if they were badly pressed for time.

Though it is good that they provided clothings to supposedly protect us from the cold (boots, pants and jacket), they were ill-fitted and it feels to me like the customer's comfort isn't their priority.

I went on the Aurora Viewing with Beck's Kennels and Joys took real good care of me. She is a most kind and considerate person and made my trip worthwhile.
Thanks Joys for a wonderful time!

A quick drive from Yellokinife downtown and you end up in world unknown to city slickers. Beck Kennels is home to 130+ eager dogs barking and howling in excitement to be chosen for their next ride. Our thirty minute ride around a frozen lake with 14 dogs was amazing. Be sure to wear warm clothes and maybe even bring ski goggles as the ride is faster than you may think. During your ride you sit with 4-5 people in a small cart and get pulled by a pack of very eager dogs to excel. The seating position is not too comfortable, but absolutely bearable for the relatively short time on the ride. I was glad to see the dogs were in good shape and did not appear mistreated in anyway. Each and every dog was making itself heard as the lucky 14 got selected for the next ride. They keep barking and wagging their tail in hope they get chosen, too. Once the full sled dashes away, a concert of disappointed howls starts and the Alaskan Huskies become bitterly disappointed not to have been so lucky this time.

I truly enjoyed the time with Beck Kennel's with only one caveat. I had to pull interesting information and facts about the Dog Sled business out of operator's nose. It would be nice if there was a nice fifteen minute intro about the dogs, sled, etc..

Thank Marcel B
