Owner description: Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people, and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, education, collections, and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic, and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT. The Museum also houses a cafe that provides delectable fares from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

“We take every visitor here - it's great!”

Super interpretive and gives a great overview of the culture. Kid's area with dress-up parkas and wall tents sees more than its share of adults as well! Grab lunch at the cafe. You won't be disappointed.

“A MUSEUM WITH NO ADMISSION CHARGE”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I am a resident and visit the museum regularly. A great place to learn about our history and there are always new exhibits. A good play area for kids while adults stroll around. Excellent restaurant that serves lunch and afternoon tea.

“Great museum and cultural centre”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

A few of us out-of-towners and some local colleagues popped in for lunch at the museum (the food at the museum restaurant is VERY good by the way) and we were impressed with the quality of the exhibits. While it's not a massive building, the displays we saw were very well done and extremely interesting. The gigantic moosehide canoe was impressive to see! And the (stuffed) animal exhibits were really well done too - the kids will love the polar bear (eating a seal) and the wolverine!

“A great place”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This was a very informative center. Lots of exhibits on the natives, animals, minerals and history of the area. A great video on the construction and use of a moose skin canoe. One can easily spend hours there.
