Owner description: Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people, and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, education, collections, and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic, and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT. The Museum also houses a cafe that provides delectable fares from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

We spent a great morning here on a rainy day learning about Yellowknife and the NWT.

“Amazing Facility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2012

I am proud to say Yellowknife has such an excellent museum for such a small town. If you want to learn about the North, its history, people and culture then go to PWNHC. If that does not interest you, go just to see the full-sized polar bear in the entrance or the bush plane or dogsled or just go for the walk and to enjoy one of Wally's homemade ginderbread cookies - the best I have ever had - sorry mom!

“Powerful Display of What Life Was Like in the North”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

Excellent showcase of what life is like in the north, and the people who were instrumental in shaping its future. Stories and photos are on display showing the way of life and how hard it was to survive in such a brutal land. One of the most interesting displays is a very long map of the entire MacKenzie River system and all the settlements along the way.
