“very strange place”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Well, the Canadian Shield, in your face. What a strange place. The houses are nuts, everything from big mansions on stilts to shacks on the Aborginal reservation with pickup trucks that run on tracks. A very unique piece of Canadiana. Go to the pilot monument for a great view of the town.

“Love Old Town”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Old town is real and funky and full of artists. Northern glass studio/Down to Earth gallery is a wonderful place to stop. It's a cooperative of northern artists, many of them local. Right next to gallery of the midnight sun, which is nice but more production art, an high end sculpture. For true northern art with that Old town flair DTE is THE place. Recycled Glass works is down the road a bit more and offers ready made as well as classes to make your own creation. I live uptown and love Old Town for it's genuine artists and wonderful people and it's house boats on the lake. It's very much the soul of Y.K. for me.

“A Must See!”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

There is so much in Old Town, you MUST see this if you go to Yellowknife. A lot of great restaurants and museums. I would highly recommend going to pilot's monument as well to get a great view of the lake and old town. Hit up Bullock's and the Smoke House too!

“Worth the Visit”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Loved the Old Town Glassworks workshop. They recycle wine and some liquor bottles into beautiful glasses, vases, some jewelry. The workshop teaches you how to take a bottle and transform it into the item you choose, prep it and sand blast a design onto it for a very unique functional souvenir. They also had some very reasonably priced prints by one of the local artists. Also the walk up to the Pilot's monument is well worth it for the views!
