“Comfortable and well-managed”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

My husband and I just left Yellowknife yesterday after a week there to see the aurora borealis. We stayed at the Coast Fraser Tower in a one-bedroom suite with a kitchenette, lots of room, and great views of parts of town and Great Slave Lake, which is now covered in ice. Our room was spacious, the king bed was very comfortable, and we had plenty of hot water for showers after roughly -35C at 11pm - 2am viewing the northern lights. We had never seen the aurora borealis before so Yellowknife turned out to be a perfect destination for us.

Both Jessica at the Front Desk and Dawn who takes care of the continental breakfast (complimentary), etc. were friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to do in town. We rented a car from National, which we think is the best way to get around the area and view the northern lights from various points on Ingraham Trail just outside of town. Dawn suggested dog sledding (fun trip with Yuka Honda, the musher, at Beck's Kennels in town) and seeing the Ice Castle (don't miss this in March!). Don't forget to visit the Visitor's Center and the Museum. We also loved the experience of driving on the Ice Road to Detah and learning more about the ice road truckers serving the mines and oil wells of the Northwest Territories.

We had a very good time seeing Yellowknife, thanks to the very comfortable, well-located base of the Coast Fraser Tower.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a view of Great Slave Lake.

I recently stayed at the Coast Fraser for my first business trip to Yellowknife as the hotel our company usually uses, was full. I am so glad that this was our choice. Located in a residential area, the hotel is a converted apartment tower and so the rooms are very spacious, clean, secure and comfortable. This was one of the quietest stays I've had at any hotel room and the King size bed was super comfortable. It was nice to have the full kitchen amenity even though my stay was too brief to get full use, but the convenience would be great for a family or visitors with a longer stay. It was like having your own apartment, very spacious and flat screen panels in both the living room with pull out sofa and the bedroom. Room was very clean and the water pressure for the shower was great. The check-in staff were professional, friendly and very informative and helpful in arranging our wake up calls and taxi to the airport. Also loved the complimentary continental breakfast and the dining area where it was self-serve. Wi-fi for internet was very fast and a plus for keeping connected. I'll be back, hopefully for a week long leisure trip to explore Yellowknife and do some kayaking. Thanks to all the staff at the Coast Fraser for making my first trip to Yellowknife a pleasurable one.

Room Tip: Was on the 8th floor and virtually no traffic noise but then again there's not that much traffic...

The Coast Frasier Tower in Yellowknife provided exactly what we needed for our trip to view the aurora. The best thing about this hotel was our two bedroom suite. It was very roomy, and we did not feel at all crowded with our two teenage daughters, and piles of cold weather gear. The furnishings were tasteful, although basic. The kitchenette allowed us to stay in on particularly cold days, prior to our aurora viewing trips. The staff, while minimal, was helpful. It was also useful to have laundry facilities available on selected floors. The parking lot was just adjacent to the front door, so running out to your car in the frigid weather was not a chore. It was nice to have constantly available coffee and tea in the lobby.

The only flaws in this hotel were, as others have mentioned, the most pitiful breakfast I've generally encountered (not a piece of fruit in sight), and the staff had to be located and asked to restock certain items on more than one occasion. Also, their printer was out of ink, and the staff unable to provide a replacement cartridge, so we could not print boarding passes.

Otherwise, this hotel offered exactly what we were looking for: a comfortable, convenient, clean and quiet place to stay.

Room Tip: Nice views on higher floors.

I recently spent four nights at this hotel. The room was very large, a small apartment really. Fully equiped kitchen which was very handy. Bed was very comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean. It's a busy place, but quiet at night. The location is good, an easy walk to downtown, but in a quiet, safe residential area. The gym has high quality equipment and is well maintained. All the staff I came into contact with were friendly and helpful; Jessica at the front desk was exceptional! I'll stay here again when I return to Yellowknife!

We recently stayed at this hotel for three nights. Our room was very very spacious, more like an apartment than a hotel room, spotlessly clean and really comfy bed. All the staff that we came into contact with were very friendly and helpful. There is a complimentary continental breakfast provided and although some people may consider this not adequate there is more than enough to choose from (despite no hot food options). It is not that far to walk to the downtown area but at minus 30 - 40 temps over the past few days we chose to drive everywhere we went. If we ever go back to Yellowknife - for more aurora viewing (which we did not need to do a tour for), to drive the ice road again or to see the lakes during another season we would definately choose to stay at the Coast Fraser Tower..

We never actually ended up staying at the Coast Fraser Hotel because our flights were cancelled due to weather conditions in our community. Upon calling the hotel as soon as we found out about the cancellation to see if we could change our reservation to the following night, we were informed that we had missed the 24 hour window for cancellations/rebookings and would be charged for the room. I was extremely disappointed as we have stayed in several other hotels in Yellowknife where if you are delayed or can't make your flight due to weather they have happily changed our reservation for us at no cost. We are now paying $160 for a room we don't even get to enjoy, with no reimbursement whatsoever. We had also booked to stay here on our way back through Yellowknife, but due to the strict/unreasonable cancellation policy we have cancelled our April reservation and have booked to stay elsewhere. The receptionist was also very unhelpful and didn't offer any other options, overall very disappointing service for what looked to be a great hotel.

We recently stayed at the Coast Fraser Tower in Yellowknife. We had a suite that was very comfortable for 3 people. Catherine Travis, Cindy Rowe, Chelsea and Sean all were professional and very friendly. All our requests were met and we had a delicious dinner as well. Good place to stay in Yellowknife
