The visitors center no longer exists. If you want information, the City Hall will have information and there is a small area there that has brochures that the visitors centre used to have.

The Visitors' Centre is permanently closed. The City of Yellowknife has taken over Visitors Centre responsibilities. The City has a mediocre Visitors' centre on the ground floor of the City Hall Building.

Sorry to say that this has been closed. Structural problems with the building forced the Visitor's Association to move out of the location. After a short temporary stay at the museum and a lack of any real support from any level of government they were forced to dissolve the association.

Very good facility. Very informative with nature and social displays. Easy venue to take your time and enjoy. It is free. Close to downtown Yellowknife so access by foot was easy. Had lunch at cafe/restaurant and it was good.

Spent the first day taking in the culture and learning about the way of life in Yellowknife and then visited the cafe to finish it off.(the gingersnap cookies were the best!!) We loved it so much we went back another day and really participated with all of the interactive elements in the museum. A must see for all ages.

The Northern Frontier Visitors Centre is a great place to learn some history about the city of Yellowknife. This place has some nice exhibits showcasing the wildlife around the area past and present and information about the area. There was also a lovely little cafe located on the top floor.

The exhibits are excellent and the building is beautiful. Obviously the federal government is giving mucho $$$ to NWT and it has resulted in an excellent exhibit. Learned a lot and the photograph collections are so special. If there had been a gift shop with some prints, we'd definitely have bought some. Too bad!

Note that the visitor centre has moved to the lobby of the Prince of Wales centre and is no longer stand-alone. This was our first stop on our trip to Yellowknife. The selection of pamplets and maps is much smaller than even what I saw at the airport. When we arrived there was a "back in 5 minutes" sign up, and within a couple of minutes a young man arrived at the desk. He may be the least helpful person manning a visitor centre I've even encountered. He managed to provide a photocopied paper listing some attractions and areas of interest in the city. I tried to ask questions about various items I had read about (trails, hikes, points of interest) and he was unfamiliar with all of them. Given his lack of information for visitors, our exchange was brief. When I walked away, he put his "Back in 5 mins" sign back up and returned to the café. Advise that you do not rely on getting any worthwhile travel information here. Do your research online.
