Tripadvisor gave an excellent review of this establishment. Of this type of accommodation, quite frankly, you won't stay anywhere better. Outstanding rooms, spectaular views, manicured gardens and Management and Staff who really understand hospitality. We will certainly stay there again! As it is a Bed and Breakfast establishment, Wetlands Country House recommended and booked dinner for us in a local Bistro. Another winner! Birds of a feather!

We stayed here two nights during a recent birding trip, which is a main reasons for visiting Wakkerstroom. Our arrival was delayed many hours, yet the manager was waiting for us to bring us to our nice warm room. This was at ... 3AM ! Where else could you ever expect such service? And it was not because we were the only guests - it was a full house. This level of personalized service continued with a delightful breakfast served later than normal because of our very late arrival. The room itself was fabulous - staying in a "shed" will never be the same. Actually, I need to elaborate on that. Our fantastically appointed room was in a converted shed with full bath tub - with candles no less - king sized bed, and great ambience. For a birder, the abundant birds found around the lodge itself are another attraction. Birders going to Wakkerstroom likely know of the birding sites, and they are all close to this lodge. Really, cannot say enough nice things about this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a "shed" - you won't be disappointed.

I have just been back to Wetlands Country House and Sheds for the second time. Rita and Philip's hospitality is second to none - they really make you feel at home. My husband and I stayed in the newly built two bedroom cottage which is enormous and very tastefully furnished and fully equipped for self catering. However, if you stay there dinner at the "Bistro" in town is a must (booking essential, Rita will do it for you). You are woken each morning by the sound of birdsong and it just gets better from there. Wakkerstroom is a must for anyone remotely interested in birdlife. Get a local guide to take you around if you are novices like us and need to learn more about identification The only down side is the tinned fruit in the fruit salad - a definite no no but I suppose fresh produce is hard to come by in these small towns. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Self catering cottage - a must. Sleeps four easily. Huge accommodation. You can still have breakf...

I recently spent 2 nights at the Wetlands Country House and Sheds while bird watching in the Wakkerstroom area. I very much enjoyed my time there and would recommend this establishment without hesitation. I have now traveled to107 countries around the world and can say unequivocally that the Wetlands Country House and Sheds is one of the finest, most comfortable places I have ever stayed anywhere. The room I was in was huge, immaculately clean, and with an outstanding view of the reservoir outside my windows. Breakfast both days was a real treat and gleaning local knowledge from the owners only added to the experience. This establishment is closely tied in with Bird Life South Africa and the organization's local office. Consequently birders flock to the place (no pun intended) and I chose the Country House and Sheds because of their association with the environmental organization. If you are in the area looking for the two endemic species of Larks found on nearby grasslands, there is simply no other choice for accomodation than here. I would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: When you make your reservation ask for one of the rooms overlooking the dam.

We recently stayed at the Wetlands Country House & Sheds in Wakkerstroom, the rooms were lovelly & well equipped - it was chilly so we had a roaring fire, the hosts welcoming, the breakfast delicious with home grown & stewed Rubarb. Thank you, definately recommend and would return... Quaint town we had pre dinner drinks at the Muckey Duck Pub who were very friendly and then dinner at the old hotel which was good. Pity not much was open by 09h30 in the morning on a Thursday but the bakery was nice very friendly people and we bought homemade cheese from the Honeymoon Cheese shop a mustard & chilli cheddar - delicious.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sheds they were large really great rooms
