Those who compare it to an old English pub evidently haven't been to one however it's still a reasonable rendition of a North American idea of what an English pub looks like. The atmosphere is suitably pub-like with an an interesting and eclectic crowd although the ubiquitous TV monitors running myriad sport channels are a distraction. The service is prompt and the beer is good but the standout performance is the Duke's Fish & Chips: unquestionably the best F&C on this side of the Atlantic (and probably the other) and a not-to-be-missed indulgence for anyone visiting St. John's who is not counting calories. There is much else on the menu that's not from the sea but, here in Newfoundland, cod reigns supreme. Be warned: the dishes are enormous so bring a good appetite with you.

The Duke of Duckworth is a nice little pub that's very busy, but a great stop in St. John's. Had the fish and chips. The fish was very nicely cooked, and the chips were delicious with gravy and dressing. Enjoyed a couple pints of Quidi Vidi honey brown, which was also lovely. Busy spot, but definitely worth checking out.

The best fish and chips in the city! And remember to say yes to dressing and gravy on your fries (for those who don't know - we didn't - dressing is turkey stuffing). You should try it at least once!

By far the best fish and chips in St Johns. Other menu items were available. The beer was cold and the atmosphere (we sat outside) was very good as was the service. Highly recommend for fish and chips.
