Those who compare it to an old English pub evidently haven't been to one however it's still a reasonable rendition of a North American idea of what an English pub looks like. The atmosphere is suitably pub-like with an an interesting and eclectic crowd although the ubiquitous TV monitors running myriad sport channels are a distraction. The service is prompt and the beer is good but the standout performance is the Duke's Fish & Chips: unquestionably the best F&C on this side of the Atlantic (and probably the other) and a not-to-be-missed indulgence for anyone visiting St. John's who is not counting calories. There is much else on the menu that's not from the sea but, here in Newfoundland, cod reigns supreme. Be warned: the dishes are enormous so bring a good appetite with you.
