“Not fancy but you should check it out.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2014 via mobile

We had such a great afternoon here with my parents that we will for sure go back.
It's not fancy. It's technically what we would call a hole in the wall but oh my goodness, it was a great meal and the service was great!
We had the fish and brewis which was fantastic. Fish cakes were okay. Cod au gratin amazing! We didn't try the toutons but looked amazing. And we had a more than reasonably priced half litre of wine.
This is a fantastic place for breakfast or lunch.
And don't forget the figgy duff with hard sauce. Get a little dark rum poured on top. The staff would only be too happy to provide because as mentioned above they are awesome.

“Down-home Newfie fare”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

Not a fancy restaurant, but very down-to-earth. Features some fine examples of Newfoundland cuisine (think cod, and think fried). We started with the toutons, a sort of Newfie donut/beignet, served with molasses; you can feel your arteries screaming in anticipation as you bite down into the moist, soft carbohydrate extravaganza. Cod tongues and fish&chips were also excellent. Simple decor, simple and honest dishes.

Not the type of thing I would have all the time, but good to try out while in town.

Reasonably price good food. With a newfie dessert to Finnish it off.
Service is great.
Look forward to going back.

This restaurant is situated in downtown St. John's...a minute's walk from the Fairmont Hotel. The food is home-made, authentic and reasonably priced.

“Terrific homestyle food!”

Always pleasant here. Great homestyle food: burgers, fish, breakfast, etc. Prices quite reasonable and food is consistently good.
