Really liked this place for drinks, the large glass windows and open patio are awesome. Service was questionable as it was tough to get a drink. Washrooms and decor are trendy and clean over all. It was quite noisy so be be prepared for this. I hear the rooms are really cool to stay in and the restaurant apparently has great food.

My wife, adult daughter, and I stayed at Blue on Water in July 2013 and were very pleased with the accommodation and the helpfulness of the staff. It is a bit disconcerting at first that there is no parking at the hotel, although there is a private lot next door that one can use for $25/night. We were fortunate, however, to find parking on the street right in front of the hotel.

The decor is minimalist but very nicely done -- excellent beds, spacious bathroom facility, and very quiet. It was a Friday night with a boisterous crowd in the bar downstairs but our room was in the back of the hotel and we didn't hear a sound from below. All in all, it was a very delightful experience, and the hotel's restaurant is the best that we encountered in Newfoundland.

We each ordered a salad and an appetizer of scallops in the lounge and it took 2 hours to get 2 appetizers. The scallops were very good. The beef carpaccio was ruined by too much lettuce. Let the beef speak for itself. Beaitiful restaurant, waiter was amazing but kitchen is way too slow. Only go if you have all night to waste

You know this will be a different experience when the sign says " Hotel Guests check in at the bar". Which we do. Prompt and efficient but they do make you sign and acknowledegement that you will be evicted for any noise after 11 PM or for an unregistered guest in the room. Interesting

I ordered a king suite room and it was large and comfortable. BUT it fronts on Water Street which is the main downtown street in St Johns a short stumble down from the bar district on George Street. We loved being close to everything and fortunately had brought our ear plugs so we slept fine. Picture attached

The restaurant is quite good (cod tongues yum yum) and the bartenders are rightly proud of their classic cocktails. The citrus in our Manhattans was done by lighting a piece of orange peel with a Bic lighter to get the maximum scent out of the peel.

Good experience overall

We spent 3 nights at the beginning of our vacation then the last two nights. We enjoyed the stay Blue on Water very much. Our room and bathroom were very large and well equipped, full shower, soaking in the room you have two couches and king size bed. Checking is very European, therefore you check in where the bar is. The staffs were excellent throughout both stays. Great bar, good cocktails.
We did come back earlier form another location to stay one extra night instead of staying where we were. I highly recommend Blue on Water.
The only drawback is the road noise, which does slow around 9:00 PM and then is gone by 11:00 PM. You cannot have such a great downtown location without the downtown noise.

Room Tip: Room 204 is very nice, room 305 could be quieter.
