“Good Choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

Stayed here with my daughter for two nights at the beginning of a Newfoundland vacation and another two nights at the end. We took a junior suite on the third floor which served our needs very well. We had a Queen bed and a sofa bed, both of which were comfortable, in a large room of about 440 square feet. The room was well equipped, was quiet, and had great views over the harbour. Toiletries, such as shampoo and towels, were of mediocre quality.

Free parking was conveniently located just across the road and, on the one occasion that the lot was full, we availed ourselves of the free valet parking which was speedy and courteous.

During our first two nights , the lobby was being renovated. The renovations were complete upon our second visit and the new lobby is very nice. Conversely, the dining room was closed on our second visit and a complimentary continental breakfast was served. Frankly I enjoyed that as much as a full breakfast in the dining room because the quality was poor, although to be fair the price was unusually low for a hotel. It is to be hoped that food quality will be improved along with the renovations!

All the staff at the hotel were outstanding. They were efficient, responsive and a total pleasure to deal with. On a Saturday night, when every restaurant seemed to be full, they got us a reservation at an excellent place just five minutes away.

Oh, by the way, there was no noise or disturbance from the renovations.

Room Tip: As high as possible on the harbour side for the best views.

I stayed for one night while traveling with work recently. The booking was exactly as requested and the room was quiet and very comfortable. The only real problem I had was the TV remote wasn't working. A quick visit to the front desk and they replaced it while I was out for a walk.

My room did not face the harbour but it was high in the building which probably helped keep any street noise down.

I'd stay here again if in town.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor and perhaps ask if they have one on the harbour side available.

It's your basic Courtyard. Was there for a couple of nights. The room was quite nice and very quiet considering the working dock actors the street. The staff was great. Very helpful and pleasant. Great views from the restaurant and bar. Would recommend it

Spent a night here in March for a hockey game and my son's birthday.Great view of harbour. Very friendly staff. Very quiet, ship left during night and never heard a thing! Only thing was when I booked it stated free valet parking but had to park in lot across from hotel.

I decided to book a room out with my sister for a night out. Was greeted by front staff ( Chris- total professional and he really gave me a great impression of the hotel--excellent customer service !!) the room was on 7th floor, awesome room, awesome view of harbour. We really enjoyed our stay. Total relaxation for us. Close enough to restaurants and nice for a walk down duck worth street too. So much nicer than the delta and Sheraton. Will be back for sure !!!

I have stayed here several times on business and have always stayed in "Premium" rooms/suites. What I cannot figure out is why these seem to be located only on the ground floor, adjacent to the outdoor sidewalk and facing directly across the street to the docks. There is no view whatsoever of the harbour, as it is blocked by trucks, heavy lifting equipment, front-end loaders and the like, all inside a high, chain-link fence.

These rooms are too dark and too close to public pedestrian and noisy truck traffic.

However, St. John's is not noted for either great hotels or great service, so the Marriott is really neither better nor worse than the best of them.

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience at our property. We pride ourselves on being one of the great hotels in St. John's and we strive to provide the exceptional service that we have become renowned for. Our property is located next to a working port in St. John's, we are sorry to hear that this is not the view you were anticipating; each level of our hotel certainly does have a different vantage point of the harbour. We do hope that you will return to our property. May we suggest that perhaps a request for a higher floor before your arrival would help us to better address your needs for future stays. We thank you for staying with us, we truly value your business and your concerns.

We came for my DD's music audition at MUN, and stayed 3 nights in the lovely Courtyard. It was cheery and bright, even in the middle of winter. Rooms were clean, comfortable, GREAT showers, and the staff couldn't have been nicer! Chris in the morning and Colin at night were especially helpful with restaurant recommendations, things to see and do, and little tidbits of info that greatly added to our enjoyable experience. Kymm was super about resolving a small problem we had with valet parking, and overall it was one of the best stays I've ever had. If DD winds up going to school at MUN, we will definitely be back! Thanks to the staff for giving me a great burthday weekend!

Room Tip: We stayed on the street side. Harborside rooms cost a little more, and this is a working harbor, so...
