We had a great stay at this Courtyard Marriott. Kim, who checked us in, was very helpful and the room was clean, organized and even had good wireless internet.

It is so nice to fly all day from the US and have such a warm and friendly greeting. This Courtyard is right on the harbor and make sure to get a harborview room if you can. Great restuarant recommendations. In face the featured restaurant for St John's that was in the Porter Airliens in-flight magazine was across the street-it is called Pi and just fabulous. A hand-made chocolatier across the street and all sorts of restuarants nearby. Close to all attractions--Signal Hill and Cape Spear--the easternmost point in the North American contient. Will stay here again. We got great directions for our next destination--Mistaken Point, about 2 hours south on the Avalong Peninsula. Do NOT miss these fossils!!!!!

The Courtyard is a hard one to figure out. It has many fine features, but at every turn there seemed to be something that made the experience less pleasant than it should have been. The location is splendid and, as others have pointed out, it is fun to watch a working harbour just outside the (well insulated) room. Yet the rooms are quite small - especially those towards the end of each corridor, and the first floor rooms really are a bit weird. The staff is cheerful, yet the concierges were oddly vague about local attractions and when I noticed I had been overcharged on the room rate the front desk staff was rather grudging in acknowledging the error. It's convenient to have a restaurant in-house, but the food really isn't very good and the coffee was so weak I noticed that even some of the wait staff had purchased their own from TIm Horton's down the street. Put it in perspective: We stayed at seven hotels in NL, NS and QC over the course of a wonderful vacation. This one (which we happened to sample twice) was about average for quality and at the very top of the scale for price. So, not a ringing endorsement, either of it (or our judgment)! And the price - well over $200 on a weekday night - still sticks in my craw. I'll give it a pass next time round.

Stayed at the Courtyard while in Newfoundland. Just fine in terms of service and cleanliness. Staff was courteous and helpful. Food is ok but nothing special. Easy walk to many downtown tourist areas and a good view of the harbor.

The rooms are new and ensuite bathrooms are quite comfortable - heated floors etc. Decent location also - with some harbour views. Restauarant hours could be improved and amenities added, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. Well worth the stay. Probably not quite at the level of the Delta or Sheraton, but great place to stay.
