A wonderful place to learn about Newfoundland & St John's, the history, the culture, the art, all so beautiful. So much to see & you can take your time walking around & speaking with the volunteers, was a great all round experience. Stop for a coffee or a meal. I can really recommend the Seafood chowder. A must do while in St John's

A conference I was at held a reception one evening at The Rooms. I loved exploring the building -- the view is breathtaking! The space worked really well for a reception. I only got to check out a few exhibits; the giant squid was cool but the exhibit on the last known Beothuk stayed with me. A security guard told us some stories about the history of the Beothuks, so we were lucky to get what amounted to a private tour.

The Rooms is a great way to learn about Newfoundland’s history and culture. There is also a great natural science section and two art galleries. This is a great place for tourists and is family friendly. A spectacular view of the harbour and downtown St. John’s is also a great feature!

I have walking issues so I am careful where I spend my time. The Rooms was a beautiful architectural building that was easily accessible. It has a tremendous amount of historical information presented in a very engaging manner. Certainly makes you appreciate the huge loss of Newfoundland young people during WWI. As a generation that has luckily been protected from war personally, it made me appreciate the sacrifice made. The art gallery portion had artists that I thoroughly enjoyed their work. Gift store was very nice and had items at all costs.

The Rooms is Newfoundland's museum with a number of separate 'rooms' honouring the province's history, it's people and artists. By far the most powerful exhibit is on Newfoundland's role in WW1. The extensive, moving exhibit traces the history of the Newfoundland Regiment and the devastating losses suffered at Beaumont-Hamel. The exhibits are extremely well done with poignant stories, artifacts and photos. On the top level is a restaurant with great views over to the harbour (the museum is located high above the city on a hill) and there's a small gift shop on the main level. The Sunday we visited admission was free.

This museum/exhibit hall has lots to offer. The Rooms have very interesting exhibits full of history and facts. There was also art on display by famous artists and photographers. Natural history was also displayed and a lot on the history of Newfoundland as well as its first people’s. The display on the First World War and what the Newfoundlers sacrificed really hit home!
We spent about 6 hours here and we covered it all. What a great day!

What a pleasant surprise. The NFLD historical information gives you a sense of pride as a Canadian, or if not CDN as a member of humanity. Our diversity, our development, the good, the bad and the ugly, but leaving with the thought that all will be better in the future. The natural history and the regular museum both stress the province and are restricted to NFLD. Give yourself a couple of hours, and take it all in.

Only had an hour or two, but it was well worth it and I will be back. Very modern, interesting compilation of art and photos and text an artifacts. Four floors with many exhibit rooms. A must see for the visitor to the island.
