I booked flights to St John’s on a whim for my husband and I as a getaway weekend. The Super 8 had the best rates for a Jacuzzi room so we decided to book it.

We arrived Friday of the Labour Day weekend and stayed til Monday. The hotel was definitely full Friday night and had some vacancies Saturday and Sunday. There were lots of families with young children and pets. We knew to expect this, as one might with any reasonably priced hotel with a pool, on the last weekend before school starts. I came to learn that the hotel is busy with families most weekends throughout the year, less so during the week ,so if you’re looking to avoid children and pets then don’t go on a weekend. I think this hotel would be perfect for business travelers during the week. It is also one of the few places which still has smoking rooms, for the time being at least.

There was some running in the halls by children but not much after the pool closed at 10:00 p.m. After that we found the place to be quite quiet, no problem getting to sleep. The floors in the elevators were often wet with people coming from the pool but warning were in place.

The included breakfast is basic continental fare, tea, coffee, pre packaged muffins, bagels, bread (a toaster), jams, jellies & cream cheese in packets, fresh fruit, a variety of cereals and milk. There are vending machines in the lobby with the usual snack items and beverages.

We found the room to be large, very clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There was a LCD TV, microwave and small fridge in the room. There was very little “closet” space for hanging clothes and the bathroom was somewhat small but had a nice shower. I assume for the luxury of having a Jacuzzi tub in the room one had to sacrifice space somewhere, we were fine with it. I also liked the fact that there was a window we could open for some fresh air. The old style bedspreads are still used, would be nicer if they had duvets as many places are using now.

What we saw of the rest of the hotel seemed well maintained. We did not have time to make use of the pool nor did we even take a look at it so I can’t comment on it.

The hotel is almost equal distance between the airport and downtown, a car is a definite must. It is about a $10 cab ride to the downtown area from the hotel.

I think if one does a bit of research they will know if this hotel will be suitable for them. It met and even exceeded some of our expectations. We found it perfect for our needs and budget and would stay here again with no hesitation.

Good Day Dear Guests!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your comments about your stay. We try to provide our guests with exceptional service and its very nice of you to recognize our efforts. You are indeed correct that we are a family oriented hotel and we are extremely busy on weekends with families.

You will be happy to here that we are presently working towards updating our bed sets and bedspreads to a duvet style.

Thanks again for your kind comments!

Sincerely,
Tracy MacDonald

It's close to the airport and on our last day touring St. John's and parts of Newfoundland, stayed at this hotel. The continental breakfast was really quite good, the coffee hot, the rooms were big and clean, and we spoke to others who said the pool was very nice, although we didn't use it. It is certainly kid friendly...lots there at any rate, and loads of pets. It was even great for those of us without kids or pets, and they weren't in our way at all. Not bad.

So here we are in St. John's after a beautiful stay in Central and Eastern Newfoundland. Have to get a motel room as the plane leaves so early in the morning. Things were pretty good in the early part of the evening but then realized that the pool area was so full of kids because there was a big birthday party. I guess they were out of town guests because all night long the kids preceded to run up & down the hallways, through the stair well doors and up & down the stairs. I mean really, where are the parents and security for this kind of disturbance? It went on past midnight so getting up at 3 am for the airport was just so cheery! Don't pick a motel with a pool! Next time I will stay at the hotel near the airport.

Room Tip: If you don't like lots of children don't pick a motel with a pool, silly me!

Booked the Kids Jungle theme suite way back in january for a July holiday. After reading some of the descriptions of the room and pool area online, we were very excited about arriving. The fact that there were little or few pictures to see should of been our first warning. First the room, this is definitely not a suite. It is a normal size hotel room that has a kids room built within it. The result is a very tight space overall, definitely not comfortable for a family of four. The jungle theme consisted of a couple of pictures and 2 stuffed animals. The bed was soft and uncomfortable, the pillow was about 2 inches thick at best and the sheets were of a poor quality. The pool is really only big enough to accomodate the people coming down the slide, can be dangerous for smaller kids that float too near the slide. The slide itself is very cool for bigger kids as it is very fast and pitch black on your way down. For kids less than 8 years of age, I would not recommend it. Overall we were dissappointed, especially when for the same price we could of had a room at the Delta where we know we would of been comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a real suite, it might be better. Or go for a guaranteed comfortable stay at the Delta.

Had a super night's stay....the pool and waterslide area was a HUGE hit with my kids. Rooms were well appointed and clean and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We will CERTAINLY be back!!

We have stayed at this super 8 before but it was mid week this time it is a weekend. The rooms are nice but with it being a weekend every kid in NL must be here. The hallways are full of running kids with parents who dont care. The breakfast area is very very small and is a total forget it it has 1 toaster and a hour line up for the free Breakfast and parents taking 5-6 plates of bagels and misc stuff back to the room you would think they are feeding the kids for the weekend with the amount of food on the over stuffed plates, if your staying here on a weekend and think the free breakfast is part of the reason you picked this motel go some where else as the choices are very limited The motel is pet friendly which is a plus and its nicely located to do everything in St John's
