“good place to stay”

This was a great spot, very clean, amazing breakfast , easy accessabilty to downtown and all the sights.
We really liked the common area as we travelled with another couple so was a great place to meet before dinner time.

This hotel offers a very clean and comfortable room in a quiet location a short walk from the downtown area. I was extremely impressed with the room, the helpful staff, and the kitchen facilities available to and guest who wants to do a bit of self-catering.

My only criticism is the quality of the breakfast. While there is abundance and variety, it is all low quality ingredients. It was a bit of a 1970s flashback with everything being extremely over-packaged a mundane. Battery farmed chicken eggs, Dempster's bread, and packaged single servings of Quaker oats meant that nothing was interesting, local, or fresh. The fruits on offer were as plain as can be: apple and oranges from far away and not really looking that fine. Even the famous local blueberry, which was in season during my stay, was present only in factory made muffins (more like cake), which I doubt were made using anything local. It was extremely disappointing, and by the end, I only went up to get milk for my tea.

The good news is that St. John's has an amazing farmer's market which has fabulous bakers and fruit sellers. I hope they hook up with the Hometel to create a continental breakfast on par with the quality of the rooms.

The internet is also a bit on the sketchy side, but I was using wireless and it may be that an ethernet chord would have solved the problem. These were available to guests at the front desk.

I was tempted to give this hotel an "average" rating, but the staff were amazingly prompt and helpful, and this improved the experience appreciably.

We were traveling as a group of 8 and wanted to be in the same location. We also wanted a place in downtown St. John's within walking distance to Signal Hill, shops, pubs, etc. This place met these criteria well. We thought the price was reasonably because we could rent a three bedroom house, and use the pull-out couch at no extra cost. Overall the place was clean, though some of the furnishings showed a bit of wear (stains, broken door handle). The kitchen is well equipped. The staff were somewhat helpful. On a couple of occasions I had to ask twice because they forgot. There is parking, but often times the parking spot in front of our house was taken, so we had to park on the street. The breakfast had lots of options, and was unlimited. The internet connection was only ok. The phones have free calls locally (and I believe nationally, though we never tried). If I was looking to rent a house again I would consider this place, but if I was just traveling as 2 or 4 I would go elsewhere.

Booked this spot because everything else was full and ended up very pleased. Nice rooms and the continental breakfast is nice as well. Very clean and also, from what I've heard, just as nice if not nicer than some of the big name hotels in the area.

Free long distance anywhere in canada was exceptionally nice!

Would definately use again.

We were a group of 6 couples on a golfing holiday. The Hometel is a row of town houses, each with three bedrooms, three bathrooms plus a lounge (which can be used as a 4th bedroom) and kitchen. The houses have 3 floors, with two of the bedrooms on the top floor and one on the street level. The two upper rooms were of a nice size with a good size bathroom. I was told that the street level room was smaller. The hotel is very central and only a short distance from many of St. John`s tourist attractions.

Because we took over two of these town houses, we met few of the other guests. We did meet some of them at breakfast and it struck me that it could be a bit awkward sharing a house with complete strangers.

The breakfast was perfectly adequate and we liked being able to choose either to eat in the general breakfast room or eating in our own house kitchen.

Helpful and very pleasant staff created a nice atmosphere in the hotel.

Room Tip: One of the rooms on the third floor is recommended but the stirs are quite steep for older people.
