The ambiance, accent and environment worked for our family Christmas outing, including a 3-day old, and left us leaving saying, "I can tell you what is wrong with that - Nothing". We could find nothing wrong, with our critical palates, with any of the appetizers including mussels, scallops, lobster bisque, duck confit and fish chowder. The mains were equally as pleasing.

Eack of the appetizers and mains were accompanied by sauces and sides that complimented aned enhanced the dish without taking anything away from it.

My god, what a pleasant experience!

This restaurant was amazing. We went for my husbands birthday with his mom. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very nice. The food was phenomenal, everything we had was cooked to perfection. The scallops I had were so light and flavor full, and the salmon for the main dish had the perfect amount of spices and flavor. We had a chocolate fudge with raspberry sauce that was also delicious. I would definitely eat at Saltwater Restaurant again and recommend it to all family and friends. We will absolutely come back to this restaurant.

We hadn't heard anything about this restaurant so we were a little nervous, but the first bite into the scallops made everyone smile. They were cooked to perfection. One person had the mushroom soup with escargot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our main courses were perfectly seasoned. Two of us had the lamb and one had the salmon. Everything was cooked exactly as ordered. On top of a wonderful meal, we enjoyed the fact that we could hear ourselves talk and weren't squished in close with other tables. But a review wouldn't be complete without giving 5 stars to the staff. Best service ever. We will definitely be going back again.

Our first visit to Saltwater was enjoyable, although we would say there is room for improvement. The service was unfortunately typical for St. John's, and the dishes were tasty but not perfected. Will visit again to give it another try.

Atmosphere - Decor is on the cooler side, but tasteful.
Drinks - Good selection at reasonable prices.
Food - Appetizers: Both the salad and the lobster bisque (special) were excellent
Mains: The chicken pasta had an excellent combination of flavours, served with what appeared to be fresh pasta, which was delicious. The chicken itself in the dish was a little dry. The "surf & turf" special included a lovely fillet, lobster tail and scallops. While the quality of the meat and seafood was excellent, the powerful pepper and tomato reduction served over everything overpowered the entire dish, which was very disappointing.
Dessert: Both the special and the chocolate terrine were tasty and nicely presented.
Service - Not appalling, not great. Waiter seemed a little disinterested at times, rushed out order despite a slow night, but was friendly enough

In the old Magnum & Stein's location that our young companion said would be great gallery space ( it was for many years... many years ago) Saltwater has been totally renovated. The bar has been moved to the rear wall and the booths are now gone creating a much larger space downstairs where the four of us ate. It is a white table cloth kind of place with white walls and kitchy wall ornamentation creating a cold atmosphere. The chairs and bar stools are downmarket and ladies watch your hosiery as underneath each seat is a band of velcro ready to snag the unwary. The lobster bisque was very good according to my friends, and a third enjoyed her salad. My calamari appetizer was very tasty though the presentation with a spoonful of tartar sauce was not great. My blackened cod main course was very good though for some reason my partner's salad took longer to prepare than the steak and halibut that our friends ordered. All reported the mains as good or better. Only one desert was ordered and the gingerbread that arrived might have served four had we been inclined, a fact the waiter commented on when my friend asked to take the remains home. Overall the food was above average. What took the evening down a notch or two was the service, let us say it was capricious. They were not busy and yet several requests for drinks were required to make them appear and then they were served across our companions. There is lots of room around the table and no reason why an extra step was not taken to serve properly. About $80 a head for the four of us.
