Worth the 20 minute drive from downtown St. John's. Beautiful place to walk and take pictures. Since there is a larger area to peruse, I would suggest planning on 2 hours for travel and the the experience. Oh ya, it's free as long as you don't go into th lighthouse. I think it was 3 bucks a person to go inside. I noticed that a couple of folks complained about the weather. Seriously, this place is on the north atlantic ocean. if you want heat, go to Florida ! Reminds me of people who complain about a resort because it was raining during there stay or complain about a resort because there flights were delayed. Alright, there's my rant.

Very historical. Saw whales feeding just off the coast.

If you want to say you have been to the most easterly place in North America then you have to go here.

this was an interesting visit to get some history on lighthouses in NFLD. It is recognized as a historical landmark and is the oldest lighthouse in North America. Inexpensive to tour the light house and where they lived, but that takes about 10-15 minutes. You won't spend a long time here, but it was good to see.

I've been to Cape Spear about 20-30 times..? And the experience never gets old. What can be disappointing about a Natural historic site? Pick up a coffee and drive to Cape Spear and walk along the coast, you can see the canons and barracks that the soldiers used. In the summer, the lighthouse is opened to go inside. June you will probably see a few ice bergs, and july and august you might spot a whale out there. Don't be disappointed if it's a little foggy up there, it's a characteristic of Newfoundland's dear charm. Cape Spear is on the top of the list for something to do in St. John's! (and it's free)
