“Excellent food, friendly service”

Excellent food with some local flair. Try the fish and chips - excellent. Look forward to coming back next time I am in NL.

If you are staying at the Delta across the street, definitely check this place out!

“Local menu”

The food and drinks are very good. This restaurant was usually quite busy for good reason. It is right across the street from the Delta.

“Definite potential”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2012

This restaurant was right across the street from our hotel (The Delta) so points for convenience. The inside decor is spartan. Not dodgy or run down. Just really spare. The chairs are all hard, straight back wooden chairs. Mostly bare walls. Definitely nothing fancy. Not a lot of ambiance.

We started with an order of cod tongues with pork scrunchions because we had to try some traditional Newfoundland fare. They were delicious. Even knowing that scrunchions will harden our arteries won't stop us from ordering them every chance we get while we're here.

It was wing night so my boyfriend ordered wings with medium sauce with a Caesar salad. The wings themselves were really good.... Crispy & nicely seasoned with a dry rub. The sauce came on the side in a weird "to go" plastic disposable cup with a lid. The sauce was like ketchup. Not good. We didn't use it after the first taste. The caesar salad however was really well done. Real bacon, real croutons & excellent dressing. (just needed a sprinkling of scrunchions!)

I ordered the salmon special which sounded delicious but was not executed very well. It wasn't bad, just not particularly good and far too expensive, given the unimaginative result and the type of restaurant. I think they need to decide what kind of restaurant they need to be & concentrate on doing that style well. With one beer each, our bill was $87 (with tip). Not worth that, for sure.

The service; however, was great. Our waitress was extremely friendly and efficient.

“It's going on my list of regulars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2011

I am always nervous when taking "come from aways" out to eat when they are from a really big city. Their expectations are always so high. I needed a place to grab lunch on the way to the airport, somewhere they hadn't been before, and I saw a positive review on here for Humphry's so I thought we would give it a shot.

So glad we did! The menu is quite comprehensive, the decor definitely had some thought put into it, the prices are reasonable, the food that we had was obviously prepared with care and received rave reviews from my dining companions. AND, the service was super friendly. It was a winning experience.

The service was neither too fast nor too slow. It gave us time to have one last visit but we still got out of there in our planned timeframe. I will be back!

“Fresh tasty seafood + friendly, professional service + relaxed atmosphere = a great evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2011

A native of St. John's recommended Humphry's - often a good sign. The service was friendly and professional. The mussels were steamed just right and served piping hot in a savory broth. The lobster pasta was perfect - pasta not overcooked, flavorful cream sauce, and loads of lobster. It was all so good, we returned the next night -- and the dinner was equally delicious. We are experienced travellers looking for good food and Humphry's hit the spot
