We deciced to rent a room for our 6 month anniversay/ valentines at the Murray Premises after a lot of research on the internet and actually going into some places.

The beautiful architecture shown on their website was the first thing that caught my eye. The staff was great helping us book the room and give us a look at some of the rooms before we decided to stay.

When we arrived we had a choice of about 5 different rooms that we could have stayed in, which were all spotlessly clean. The room we chose to stay in was really large and had exposed beams and a interesting slanted sealing and and a nice big jacuzzi tub.

I can't say enough about this place. It has been about a year (too long) since we have been here and we are delighted will be returing again for valentines. Keep up the good work!

The Murray Premises is a lovely hotel but the parking situation is a real disaster! I stayed there with friends on Canada Day in 2006. Our rental car was parked within 30 feet of the registration desk, separated by floor to ceiling glass. During Canada Day evening our rental car was kicked in by (probable drunken celebrants) with $3500 cnd damage according to the rental company! Even though our car was parked outside of a desk where there was alledgedly a night clerk on duty, the hotel would absolutely take no responsibility for our tragic loss! They simply said "we don't own the lot! This was a nasty experience and their management was absolutely fixed and unresponsive. Please be careful when parking there. The hotel is fantastic and well worth the price. We would have had a wonderful experience save for the vandalism!

My wife and I stayed at the Murray Premises in early August 2006. The conversion of the building to a hotel was well done and we really enjoyed our stay. You can read in the other reviews about the rooms, the towel warmers, whirlpool tubs, bathrobes etc. There certainly was no expense spared to build the hotel.

One of the best things about this hotel is location. The two big downtown hotels (Frontenac and Delta) anchor either end of the downtown area. The Murray Premises is between them, right on the waterfront and some short steps up to Water Street, which is the main downtown street. It's a walk over to the Convention/Conference Centre and the nearby Delta, and a longer walk in the other direction to the Frontenac.

The rooms are on the third and fourth floors. Each is different due to fitting them into a very old building. We had one of the fourth floor rooms. These have open beams and are very romantic and cottage-like.

There are two restaurants in the building (Hungary Fisherman, Press and Bean) and each are excellent. We were amazed by how good the local restaurants are. Besides the two in the building we tried Aqua and DeVitos and they were all great. We took the harbour dinner cruise as well, and it departs from right across the street.

Complaints are hard to come by, but in the spirit of continuous improvement, I can make some suggestions. The hotel was built in 2001, so now after five years, it's time to look after a few things. The caulking around the bathtub in our room needed to be renewed. Breakfast is included and it was continental in style; fruit, muffins, croisants, toast, cereal, yogurts and hard boiled eggs. The hotel doesn't run any kind of food service, so there's no room service. This showed at breakfast where it was the same fare every day. More fruit and mix it up a bit, Murray!

This is a pricey place, but it was worth it for us!

We really enjoyed our stay. Charming room and nice continental breakfast included. Its location handy to downtown was a plus, and a very helpful young lady at the front desk helped us prolong our stay, when our plane reservations got mixed up. We would highly recommend this hotel.

My partner and I travelled to NF in October for a wedding. It was his first time on the Rock and I am so glad we stayed at the Murray Premises Hotel for his first time here. The staff were excellent and exuded the hospitality that Newfoundlanders are renouned for. My mainlander spouse was much impressed with their friendliness. Our room was absolutely beautiful and the extra touches (ie towel warmer, bottled water in fridge) were much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed the bottle of champagne the hotel provided. The view from our room was spectacular as we were facing the harbour front. The only problem we had was around seven am on Sunday we were awakened to a ruckus in the room above us. That was kind of disappointing seeing how this was our time away without the kids and we had been looking forward to sleeping in. When this was mentioned to the front desk when we were checking out we were casually told that a bunch of Navy guys had been staying there and had shown up from a night of partying at seven that morning. Despite this disappointment, we will most likely stay there again...just have to hope there are no Navy men around I guess.

This hotel is perfect in every respect. The historic premises have been lovingly restored and converted into this excellent hotel. The friendly and helpful staff combined with an exceptionally large,well-appointed room (fireplace, whirlpool, refrigerator, etc.) make for a very pleasant stay. Little touches abound: bottles of water in the refrigerator, a basket of snacks, towel warmers, and a daily newspaper. The included breakfast is delicious and offered a large variety. Parking is free right outside the hotel entrance. The location is near to shops and restaurants on Water and Duckworth streets and the pubs on George street.
We plan to return there in June of next year.

We arrived in St. John's after a week of exploring the Irish Loop, Trinity, etc. We had reserved a room at the Delta and realized it was very generic and overall disappointing. We happened upon Murray Premises and booked a room immediately. The staff is excellent, the rooms are beautiful, the complimentary breakfasts are perfect, and the location is a block from George Street! It's the best! We'll be back.
