a trip to newfoundland/Labrador, would not be complete without going to George street in St Johns Newfoundland.
it is the heart of this big hearted city.People from "The Rock" all know and this this street.
there is so much to do and cultural things to enjoy and take part in being treated just like family.
frendliest province in the country.
"down homers"
sometimes they can be a little hard to understand as there is a Newfie dialect that is tricky but they always will slow down how they speak if you are having trouble understanding them.
either way it is all just great fun.
I hope you like Cod potatoes and turkey soup.
and do try and have a good "Jig's dinner"
there is some other unique things to sample like seal fins and doulce.
just take it all in and enjoy the down east music and culture.

George Street may not be much to look at during the day (it's actually not a very pretty spot) but at night it turns into party central with some of the city's best bars. You'll even find some quieter spots (like Bridie Molloy's) where you can get screeched in. The action goes to the early hours of the morning and there's plenty of live music. A must visit when in town.

If hustle and bustle is your thing then this is the place to enjoy it. But this Geezette prefers more sedate, quieter things to do. Am I sorry I went there? No, but once is enough for this gal.

Nice little bar street. In the fall it's best to go on a Friday or Saturday after 10pm. After school starts it becomes a lot more crowded because of the students. Many places have cover charges but not all of them do. Enjoy the street food while you're there!

It was okay but not for the hype given! Prices are high but I guess it's the attraction that you pay for! There were some great entertainment! Maybe some upkeep on some of the pubs with a fresher look might help

Everyone says you have to get "screeched in" when you first arrive in Newfoundland. If you must, George street is as good a place as any to go through this ritual. Newfie Screech is just rum, not particularly good rum but local rum. Trader Joe's was the place we selected, although there are a few others that provide this "service". You have to eat something, drink something, say something and kiss something from Newfoundland and a jovial bartender leads you through this, much to the amusement of the patrons in the bar. All for the price of $17.00. Luckily there are many other bars that have live music and pretty good pub food, O'Reillys, Green Sleeves and Shamrock City (around the corner on Water St.) being a few of them. This area is a must see if you are in St John's, well worth a stroll and a few drinks.

If you like to socialise, enjoy a drink and love live music then just visit George Street! There are plenty of options to choose from and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

Go and "kiss the cod", enjoy the music, the food, and the beer. It is well worth an afternoon or an evening. You can take your pick of the dozens of pubs---and more than one will easily meet your expectations.

The music is usually great but you may find the odd singer who just does old cover tunes. Some of the pubs are really good, some are just average. No matter which ones you visit, the people will be friendly. I was going to give it a 3 star but we saw an over-the-top musical revue.
