“Solid, not outstanding, but does the job”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

I usually stay at the Delta for the convenience of its location ( it's connected to the office building where I'm usually meeting at, and if you know St. John's weather, that can be real plus!). I have had great rooms, and so-so rooms, just like many other hotels. Yes, the place could do with a bit of a facelift, but it ticks the boxes in most areas. Always exceptionally friendly and efficient front desk staff, which is appreciated when normally arriving after 11 p.m. The breakfast room can get very busy, so be sure to let them know if you're in a hurry. Considering the lack of hotels in St. John's, I have never found the rates to be outrageous ( even outside the corporate rate we can obtain). Newfoundland charm has a way of dealing beautifully with any issues. My "average" rating refers only to the property, not the service, which is really good.

Room Tip: Corner rooms with a habour view are best

We stayed at the Delta St Johns this week for a conference. From the minute I walked into the hotel I was shocked it looked like a Delta from the 80's, maybe it was all the ugly plants or the museum boats in the lobby. We checked into our room 223 and were even more shocked from the stained carpets and smoky room. We went down to the front desk and explain the problem. The lady on the front desk was quite apologetic and very friendly and Without question moved us to a new room 533. we had a lovely corner view but then again the room was quite outdated. I always stay at Delta but this has to be one of the most outdated hotels I've ever stayed in across Canada. For the room rate you would think you'd have a more modern room, guess not this hotel would be lovely if they renovated.
We went to the restraunt Quinn's and had a lovely seafood medley and salmon dinner. We had a great service but the restaurant is well kinda in the bar so it was quite loud and there was a projector screen playing a sports game with shouting people watching sports not very suitable for people that wanted to have a quiet dinner and a nice glass of wine for the price you pay, $133 you would expect to have a little bit better atmosphere then this,we didnt return our entire stay. again very strange for Delta Hotel chain.
Overall the hotel is very outdated for Delta chain, rooms are clean, staff and service were great! I think next time we will try the Sheraton as they have been remodeled just recently

Thank you for posting a review of the Delta St. John's hotel following your recent stay. We are glad that the front desk were able to facilitate a room move for you. We continually reinvest in our property and will be seperating the bar and restaurant in early 2013 to avoid the situation your described. We also have plans to renovate the lobby in the near future as well as continued renovations of the guestrooms. I will add that many guests enjoy looking at the model ships on display in the lobby as they represent an important part of our history as a province. I hope that you will give the Delta St. John's another try when next in the area.

Clean and comfortable - but quite pricy overall for what you get.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that faces the harbour...

Thank you for posting a review of the Delta St. John's Hotel following your recent stay. We are pleased that you found our hotel to be clean and comfortable. Our rates are based on market demand and June being a busy conference month, they are higher than other months of the year. Our rates are most definitely within range of all downtown hotels offering comparable amenities and services.
We hope you enjoyed your stay

St. John's doesn't have a large downtown, but the Delta is well situated. The hotel itself seems a little rundown, and the rooms aren't that quiet and you hear almost everyone walking down the hall. Elevators are painfully slow.

Room Tip: If you want a harbour view, get on floors 8 to 11 so that you're high enough to see it.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the Delta St. John's hotel following your recent visit. I am certain that your review will be helpful to future travellers in terms of our location relative to downtown amenites. it is unfortunate that noise from surrounding rooms were of a disturbing nature to you. Our building is equipped with the highest possible sound barrier protection so I was surprised to read this, although all noise, especially when excessive cannot totally be drowned out. I also apologize that you found the elevators to be "painfully slow". We have 5 guest elevators and we just learned that there was a mechanical problem with 2 of them during the time of your visit that has since been rectified. Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Delta St. John's

We stayed here during a conference. Hotel Delta is in a great location which is ideal for a business stay. Given its size and nature, it does come with a bit of an institutional feel, and you will probably find more warmth and character elsewhere. However, if you want a 'safe' choice with the usual frills and amenities, this place offers just the right choice at the right price.

Thank you for completing a review of the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre following your recent stay. We hope that you enjoyed your stay and that the conference was a success. While it is true, that our hotel is ideal for business and conferences, we also have a large core of frequent travellers who are loyal to our hotel because of the warmth of the team who work here, not necessarily the "warmth" of the building as you pointed out. We do hope we have opportunity to warmly welcome you back should you have occasion to once agaon visit St. John's

The hotel was very good and had an excellent location. It was close walk to everything that I needed, close to attractions and close to the night life on George Street. The room was clean, comfortable and serviced well. Perhaps a bit dated, but nothing to deter from the stay. The staff were super friendly and I liked them very much. The disappointing thing was the fitness facility. It was very outdated and needed an overhaul. I was expecting better from a Delta in that regard. It had great underground parking, for a charge. All in all, it was a really good stay.

I am certain that your review will be helpful to future travellers as it is quite accurate in terms of our location in relation to the downtown attractions and amenities. Treated to a Newfoundland welcome right from the start. Nice hotel, ask for a premium corner room overlooking the harbour.
I had some medical issues while there and the whole staff, I mean the whole staff, was very helpful, understanding and could not do enought for us. They just said "stay as long as you want and we will look after everything." And they did.
I cannot say enough nice things about the staff, from the front desk to the dining room.
We have never had such a nice experience in a Delta Hotel before.
Hotel attached to the convention centre and a bit close to the working docks, but interesting through the window. I always look at Delta as a business hotel, but the personality here goes way beyond what you would expect.

Room Tip: Ask for a premium corner room. Best view, or you might end up looking over the parking lot. Any of...

Thank you for posting a review of the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre following your recent stay and for your very kind comments. We are very pleased that they responded to your medical issue with such compassion and kindness. This is the kind of behavior that cannot be taught in a training program. It comes to them naturally, and it is who they are. We are fortunate to have the team working here that we do, and we frequently hear that they are the difference. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Delta St. John's Hotel in the future.
