I stayed in a spacious second floor room (#4) At Witt's Inn the last two nights of a 10-day trip across Newfoundland. The inn is located on the colorful Gower Street, which is an attraction in itself, and is walking distance to all the pomp and circumstance of Duckworth and George Streets.

I was impressed as soon as I walked through the door (all 3) with the condition and decor of the house; it's a gorgeous home! My room (#4) was huge, well-furnished, had a fantastic shower in the bathroom, and looked out onto Gower Street (but is not noisy). The morning breakfast included the freshest coffee and fruit that I had while in Newfoundland, as well as a delicious wild mushroom crepe.

Overall, one of the best B&B's I've stayed at, anywhere, and certainly a great value considering the location and quality of service and accommodations. Thank you, Janet and Gary!

Room Tip: #4 is a spacious second floor room

My sister and I stayed at this B & B for 7 nights in June/ July 2012.It is a beautifully renovated Victorian house that still retains a lot of the charm of that era. The breakfasts were varied and delicious. Janet and Garry were wonderful, knowledgeable, thoughtful and helpful hosts and their house truly felt like home. We stayed in room 1 with the two twin beds for 6 nights and room 2 which had a Queen bed for the last night. Both rooms were huge, and both had large en-suites. No complaints with either room! The location is perfect, we walked to supper each night, as well to Signal Hill, George Street, harbour front and the Rooms. On street parking included, as well as a small pantry with tea and coffee and snacks. Wonderful common areas. We would go back in a heartbeat. We definitely recommend.

Like the other reviewers, we were very pleased with our two-night stay At Wit's Inn. It's a beautiful old house in a great location in St. John's (close to all the action but not right in the middle of it), and the breakfasts that Janet and Gary provided were by far the best on our trip. Our room was on the top floor which was fine for us, but might be a problem for some people. The room was large and beautifully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom spacious and well-appointed. Although our hosts weren't native Newfoundlanders, they certainly knew plenty about St. John's and the island, and were happy to help us with directions and other information. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: If you have a problem with stairs, ask if there's a room available on the second floor (still ha...

We were so happy that what we saw online was what we got and on top of that the hosts were warm, friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Spent eight nights at the Inn and enjoyed every minute. Thank you Janet and Gary for a wonderful first Inn experience.

Beds are great, food is wonderful.

Room Tip: All rooms great, number one is two single beds.

My husband and I stayed here in February 2012 for one night. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of this B & B. It was very relaxing and quiet. We had room 4, which had a large bathroom with a claw foot tub. It was just perfect after a long day of shopping. It is close to the downtown core so we walked to Water Street for dinner.
Upon arrival we were told to make ourselves comfortable and there was unlimited access to tea, coffee and snacks in the kitchen areas. Breakfast in the morning was continental, but quite filling. We had croissants, cheese, eggs, toast, oatmeal, yogurt and more. It was much more than a standard continental breakfast.
We would recommend this B & B as a nice, quiet retreat!

Room Tip: If possible, try to get room 4. It is quite large and has a claw foot tub, perfect for soaking!

After spending nearly 2 weeks in Newfoundland, we saved the best for last. We were welcomed into the "Inn" by the daughter of the owner. She was very enthusiastic and welcoming. She provided us with recommendations for restaurants, local watering holes "Bars", and directions to historical sites not to be missed while in St John's. Later in the evening we met our host Janet who was pleasant and friendly. She prepared the best breakfast in the morning and made sure everyone was full and happy. The "Inn" is very attractive and well maintained, especially being one of the older historical houses in town. The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are really comfy. Stay here and enjoy your time in St John's which will grow on you quickly.
Don't forget to make a side trip to "The Battery", which is a small settlement at the end of town below Signal Hill. The homes are built into the towering cliffs and are painted all kinds of wild colors. Ask around for the old convenience store. The locals will invite you in and play the Newfoundland instrument, the "Ugly Stick" for ya. What a hoot.
