When you first arrive in the area of Quidi Vidi and you go past the lake/pond you will go through the quaint village of Quidi Vidi. The small harbour mouth was protected by a small Artillery battery in the 1800. The locals designated to carry on the duties of the original Gunners will be dressed in the uniforms and will do everything they can to recreate the way things were when the actual Artillery Soldiers were posted to this small outpost at the mouth of the passage to open water. After this short visit you should return back to your vehicle and visit the Quidi Vidi Brewing company for a cool drink. This area is totally worth visiting......so don't forget to bring along your camera

This is another one of those must see stops in St. John's. This little quaint fishing village just outside of Downtown, is the home of the local Brewery and several dozen Fishing Boats which venture out into the North Atlantic bring home the daily ketch which can be purchased right off of the docks.

It was a beautiful sunny day and sitting on a rock overlooking the unusually calm Atlantic was magic.

A small fishing village right in the middle of the city of St. John's that is easy to get around on foot. It has a pub and a brewery.

My wife and I enjoyed a beer tasting at Quidi Vidi micro brewery on July 21. Quidi Vidi, a small village, is located about 15 minutes from downtown St. John's. The brewery produces excellent beer, as proven by two medals--a gold and a silver--at international competitions. The tasting, which takes place in an upstairs bar with wonderful harbour views, consists of a brief history lesson on the area and the two men who started the brewery. As university students keen to save money, the pair brewed beer in a janitor's closet at their dorm. Needless to say, they were caught (beer is hardly odor-neutral) by puritanical authorities who took such a dim view of their entrepreneurial zeal that Dave and Dave were kicked out of the dorm. When the 1992 moratorium dealt a death blow to the cod industry, the two men bought an abandoned fish plant at Quidi Vidi and set up what has become a fantastic success story. Quidi Vidi produces 7 excellent beers. Our tour guide, a gregarious young man, provided useful explanations about each. The star beer is Iceberg, sold in a distinctive blue bottle. It uses water from icebergs corralled on the northern peninsula near St. Anthony. Guests are given small samples of each beer (probably 2-3 ounces; there is no danger of leaving Quidi Vidi over the legal limit for driving). The cost is $15. At the end of the tour, guests are able to buy beer to take home--there is no high sales pressure to buy, however.
Overall, the beer tasting is a pleasant way to spend an hour learning a bit about Newfoundland history and sampling some very good beers.
