“Amazing Place to Stay.. We loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2008

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Leaside Manor for two nights in August. We stayed in the Confederation Suite, and the room was awesome. We're a younger couple, and the room was modern, hip, and sexy... but warm and comfortable at the same time. We absolutely loved our time there! The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast was yummy and brought right to the room, and I would recomment this place for someone with an allergy. I'm allergic to eggs and they made sure that I was given a yummy egg free meal with no problems for breakfast.

We will definately stay here again! I would recommend this inn for anyone young or old that feels like being pampered for a few nights.

Elaine; Joanne & the staff at Leaside Manor were excellent. They made us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived! As luck would have it our rental vehicle was not available and there would NOT be any vehicles available from a rental agency until well after our departure. On the first available business day elaine & Joanne made a quick phonecall on our behalf and we were able to enjoy the island experience from the comfort of our own vehicle for the rest of the week! They REALLY made our vacation a success as a result of making the effort to go the extra mile! Mornings and breakfast at the Leaside were a time to meet new and existing guests and they were a wealth of information that helped us shape our day of travels. Elaine also had terrific insights into various operators and her advice was also greatly appreciated. St John's and Newfoundland are beautiful but it is the history and the people that will make you want to return and from our perspective you can't get any better than the people who are at Leaside Manor!

When we booked in at Leaside Manor we were expecting a cute, traditional B&B - but it's so much more than that! In England we'd definitely call this a 'boutique hotel' - it has a really exclusive feel while still being a family run, friendly place to stay. The building itself is full of character, and is maintained beautifully.

We stayed in the Trinity room, which had a massive jacuzzi in the middle of the room (wow!!!), and was decorated in a really smart, contemporary style. Elaine, the owner, showed us around a few of the other rooms too - they are all differently decorated, and all gorgeous. I was tempted to ask for a different room for each night of our stay!

The staff were great for suggesting places to eat and things to do, and were happy to make a booking for us to go seakayaking - we even got a discount because Elaine had recommended them! She couldn't have been more helpful or knowledgeable about Newfoundland - a real bonus on our first visit to the island.

At breakfast all the guests sit at one massive dining table - which is really sociable - and are presented with something different every day. The french toast with caramelised apples was amazing! but there's always something special, like a bit of cake or something. Totally yummy!

If you visit St Johns, you really should stay at Leaside Manor - definitely the best B&B i've ever stayed in, and probably the best breakfast in Newfoundland!

This is the only place to stay when you are visiting St John's Nfld! The building and common rooms are preserved and decorated with exquisite taste and charm. The rooms are modern, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in a variety of upbeat modernistic themes. The breakfasts are wonderful: tremendous variety, beautifully prepared, great menu. The staff are all unfailingly helpful and cheerful. Leaside Manor is truly Newfoundland at it's best.

You'll kick yourself if you miss it. We would certainly go back!

I use the Trip Advisor reviews regularly to determine where to stay when travelling, and until now haven't been misled. I really don't know how the Leaside Inn came to be rated #1, and especially how it came to be rated over the Bonne Esperance, which is so much better in every way.

We were put in the Jelly Bean Row room, which is right off the lobby and right next to the breakfast room, so we felt we had little privacy and were awakened early every morning. The room was clean but right on the road, which tends to be noisy even at night, and the configuration of the bathroom is very strange, making taking a shower awkward. We also found the room very warm and stuffy; there is an air conditioner, but it was too loud to keep running all night. However, the room would get so warm when it was off that we had to get up several times in the night to put the air conditioner on.

I will say that Elaine, the owner, is extremely helpful, and the kitchen staff are also very friendly. (The strange breakfast situation seems to be that the first one to the table makes a request and that's what everyone else gets, like it or not.) Breakfast is made uncomfortable, however, by Elaine's husband, a British man who loudly holds forth on the strangeness of Newfoundland (and, surprisingly, openly ridicules Newfoundlanders, displaying the worst of old colonial attitudes. We were, quite frankly, appalled).

Last mark against the Leaside is its location. For those who like to be on foot (and who don't want to cope with the difficult, expensive downtown parking), be warned that the Leaside is a brisk 25-minute walk to downtown. My advice is to stay at Bonne Esperance, which is right downtown, on Gower, has lovely quiet rooms with windows that open onto an absolutely stunning garden full of restful chairs and loungers. We ended up there on our return from our travels around the Avalon and were glad that we did.

We stayed at the Leaside Manor for six nights and it was an excellent experience. The room, the Signal Hill Suite, was beautifully decorated and very clean. The bathroom, with the large, soaker tub was wonderful and well supplied with towels. It had a kitchen, outfitted with pots/pans, utensils, etc., everything you could want.

The staff were extraordinarily helpful, always making themselves available to suggest a good touring route or site to visit or recommending great restaurants. Joanna was delightful and the owner, Elaine, is so helpful and informative. Her knowledge of the area is great and it really enhances the travel experience. It is evident that Elaine and her team love what they do and care for the lovely heritage property, as it is beautifully maintained.

The breakfast was delicious and the menu changed regularly. In the six days we were there the breakfast menu was different every morning. The staff professional, courteous and helpful. It was a very pleasant experience and we can't wait to return to St. John's and the Leaside Manor.

We stayed at the Leaside for one night at the end of our trip to Newfoundland and we really enjoyed our stay. The property is a beautiful heritage building on a quiet residential street. The lobby is fabulous with period furniture and a beautiful design in the hardwood floor.
We had booked a single room but were upgraded to the Signal Hill Suite on our arrival - a large room with kitchenette and living room and jacuzzi and a beautiful curtained bed. Very nice. The owner, Elaine, greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We had a wonderful breakfast in the dining room in the morning.
We highly recommend this inn. If we return to St Johns we will be sure to stay here.
