We recently visited the Compton House at the beginning of our trip to Newfoundland -staying in the Partridgeberry Room & then again at the end in the Avalon Suite. The staff were awesome- special thanks to Kathy, Cindy & Peggy. We were very pleased with our choice & would love to return.
It was a great place to begin & end our first trip to Nfld.

We were in the Partridgeberry room. The room was fairly large and nicely decorated. The bathroom was quite small. We kept the air conditioner on and never were disturbed by hall noise. The staff were very kind and charming. Breakfast was a cooked option, fresh fruit and juice and cold cereal. We had an early flight and they left us muffins, fruit and juice to get us started. The location was about a twenty minute walk from downtown and not an inconvenience for us. There is alot of construction in St John's and it makes for a dirty noisy atmosphere. I was glad to be a bit removed from all that.

Stayed five nights in the Baffin Suite, which was very comfortable, newly renovated and quiet. Some of the smaller rooms which open directly on to the hallways, might not be as quiet. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, breakfast quite good. Located just a little too far from the centre for us, especially if it is raining, so we had to drive. Late check-out very civilized; plenty of towels and great two person bath-tub. No tea or coffee making facilities, nothing in the bar-fridge; although when we asked for a kettle, they were most obliging and found one for us.

Room Tip: Baffin is a two room suite, very quiet, on the top floor.

My wife and I have just completed a three day stay at this B & B in central St. John's. From late checking arrangements to a smooth checkout, everything was perfect. Everything in the suite worked, and there were an abundance of good quality towels of all sizes in the bathroom. The room was reasonably large and well appointed. Free local calls were nice. A highlight was the quality of the breakfasts-fresh muffins; lots of juice; two types of coffees; and cereals...to start! Then there is the hot meal of the day: Eggs Benedict; or French Toast & Bacon; or Omelettes. WOW ! Great friendly service. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: This is a three story walk-up. if you have mobility problems, advise the staff whenv making your res...

Stayed two nights in the Pippy Suite, very spacious, great view of the grounds, would be a wonderful room for a romantic gettaway. Also viewed the Avalon Suite, ground floor level, very modern with hues of grey & purple, nicely decorated! Breakfast was good! Grounds around the B&B were nicely kept, location is within walking distance of downtown, although had to walk through a not so nice area of town first. Staff were friendly & accomodating when we needed more towles. Had an extra cot in our room for our son, it was a little on the small side thought. The cots could use some updating.
Over all a great experience.

Room Tip: If you want modern go for the Avalon Suite.

We booked the Burin room for the first night of our honeymoon and it was wonderful. The staff were lovely, the room was beautiful. We had a fireplace, a big jacuzzi tub and a 2 person shower. It was a little loud in the morning as the room is on the first floor near the breakfast room but it didn't hamper our stay. The breakfast was delicious. A really perfect stay.

Room Tip: Burin room is perfect for a romantic evening but a little loud in the morning.

First of all, it is true is that the staff is wonderful and the breakfast was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and would likely return although we would choose a different room. We had the Burin suite which is located on the first floor, adjacent to the main stairs and very close to the kitchen and dining room. The room itself was very clean and comfortable but because of the large jacuzzi in the bedroom, there is no room for a dresser or bureau. Since we were staying for five days, this was a bit inconvenient for us. We had to live out out of our suitcase for the entire stay. We also found it a bit noisy. As it is an old house, it is not unexpected to hear people walking above you but because of the location of this particular room, you heard everyone enter, exit, walk to their rooms above, breakfast being prepared and eaten. We are early risers and the staff was as quiet as could be expected, but there is only so much one can do to keep things quiet in an B&B.

Room Tip: Try a room upstairs and/or without a jacuzzi or with the jacuzzi in the bathroom rather than in the...
