Our family of four stayed for two nights in August 2013.

The hotel is beautiful and new, our beds were soft, and the rooms were very quiet with large windows. The hotel is situated perpendicular to the road, so even at busy times, the road noise is minimal. It's also located very close to every chain store and restaurant you can think of as well as the Avalon Mall. The bathroom was large and clean, and there was a microwave and tiny fridge in the room.

On the down side, because the hotel is so great, it was booked solid for both nights we were there. (good for management, poor for guests!)

This meant that at no time was the pool empty enough for us to feel comfortable using it, and it's a small pool. Very small. There's also a water slide, but it was out of service the first day, and because of the crowd we didn't use it the second day either.

Same problem with the breakfast. It's a beautiful set-up with hot food choices, cereals, etc., all that you could ask for, and delicious, but when the hotel is full, three hours just isn't long enough. Both mornings we were so stressed out just trying to make some toast and get a glass of juice that we really couldn't enjoy it. We tried different times the second day, but didn't catch a break. One suggestion would be to double the service area and open it at both ends of the breakfast room on busy mornings such as those. Then during quieter times, the one service area would suffice. Too bad, as the food was good quality and plentiful.

The staff was very friendly (though run off their feet!), and the service was quick.

If I were to return to St. John's, I would try a lower rated hotel, something closer to downtown.

Very nice, but for us, it was not worth the extra cost.

While it is a clean and new hotel, our stay was far from what we expected. We stayed here because of the pool and slide. When we arrived at 3:00 PM for check-in we were informed that someone had called us and told us that the slide was not working. We never received this call, nor did several other guests checking near the same time. We were then told that the pool would not be open until 6:00 PM. That gave us 3 hours of no pool time and with plans for the evening, we got very little pool time (about an hour) before it closed on our return. Furthermore, the children in our group went down to the front counter for a snack and were spoken to negatively by the front desk clerk. They returned to the room and said that she told them that a form had been signed by the parents saying the children would not leave their room after 10:00. I went down and spoke to the clerk and asked what she was talking about, she held up a form and said I had signed one, and my response was that I had not and this was the 1st I heard of it. She told me that they did not want children running around the hotel, to which I asked if they were and she said no. So again I asked her what the problem was in them coming down to get a snack and not disturbing anyone. To be honest for $200 a night, I did expect better service and amenities. We had a very bad experience here and I would recommend Super 8 for your stay. They are more family friendly than this new hotel appears to be. After our stay I contacted the hotel and got the email address of the manager, Mr. Russell, and messaged him, but never did get a response. That too was disappointing. Anyway, hope no one else has a bad experience like we did. :(

Very clean rooms, minimal noise, fantastic breakfast and friendly staff.
Great to see how eager the housekeeping staff is at getting a start on their day, when they knocked on our door at 8am wanting to know when they could make up our room !!!

Helpful staff. Great facility. Good breakfast. Didn't have the courage to ask wat the rate would have been had we booked direct- but since it is high season and we were close on time, finding a vacancy wasn't easy!

Stayed one night. Arrived early afternoon & went in to register early & to ask if a family member who was heading to the airport in the evening could go up to our room when it was ready. The manager on duty offered us an upgrade (no extra charge) so that our family member could go on up to a room immediately and relax before his flight while we browsed downtown, shopped, etc. The room was spacious, with king bed and a pull-out, AC, nicely equipped. The kindness was very much appreciated, especially for someone with a cross-country flight ahead of them. Their breakfast buffet is fabulous and ample. If anything is in short supply/not in sight, the staff very quickly will provide it for you. We have stayed twice now and had a great experience both times.

Room was not cleaned well, front desk would not answer the phone, AC made a lot of noise. We stayed for 2 nights after our wedding and had nothing but issues and received no apologizes from any staff!

Room Tip: Find a different Hotel!! If you do stay here I hope your stay is better then ours was.

Booked here for a family weekend in St. John's and we were very pleased with our stay. Among the many positives: clean and modern decor, great water slide that does not exit into pool which is separate, big selection of hot and cold items for breakfast, friendly staff, plenty of parking which is close to entrance (always an issue with the downtown hotels) , convenient location and tea/coffee available in lobby. All this and an excellent rate for provincial residents. We will definitely return and have already recommended the hotel to some of our friends.
