We had a very nice dinner and enjoyed the extensive menu with interesting options. The brie/partridgeberry appetizers were good, but not great, the salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked, we ordered the salt cod special dish of the day which was in a green curry and, probably because we are not locals, found it difficult to eat because of the saltiness.
The atmosphere of the house with separate dining rooms is great and we would definitely recommend eating at this restaurant.

There was a group of 6 or 7 of us.We were staying at the Delta and one of the guys at the front desk suggested this place. It was a great suggestion. We had the best meal there.Everyone raved about their meal.I had the salmon and it was the best I have ever tasted! It is in an old house and the atmosphere was very nice.Service was good.Prices were a bit on the higher side but the meal was so worth it. It is near to the Delta but the walk is up a steep hill.So if you are dressed up,you may want to take a cab.

After reading a review of Bacalao, we choose this for our great meal out. Not being able to choose between the salmon and the cariboo, i choose the game and my wife choose the salmon. My cariboo was to die for. It was amazing but my wife's salmon was the best piece of fish either of us have ever eaten. Everything else was amazing. The service was great as was the dessert, but we could not stop talking about the salmon. This should be on everyones list to do when visiting St. Johns. Finish it off with the birch sap wine for something different.

We loved this place so much we ate dinner here twice during a four night stay!

The service is top notch. knowledgeable servers who are friendly and helpful.

The restaurant is housed in an old century home with lots of charm and warmth. Great for a date.

We ate here our first time with a large group and the food arrived hot and in a timely fashion (a challenge with fish often). The second time we were just a party of four and it was just as great.

Lots of great specials with local flare and flavour. Great desserts and wine selection (local libations too).

The portions are very generous.

This place is no to be missed.

Bacalao has an authentic local cuisine and atmosphere, impeccably prepared and presented, with service to match. This is a top-end place so don't expect budget prices.
