My husband and I stayed here the middle of July of this year. The house is historic and fairly well maintained considering how old it is.Tthink grand old dame. The room we stayed in looked like it had been recently renovated with a nice bathroom. We had a lovely, comfortable queen sized bed and a small couch and coffee table. There is a very nice park next door with walking trails.

I couldn't believe the bizarre 'service' we got! The waitress actually threw our plates at us, and just shouted at patrons across the dining room. It was a pleasure to leave! The food was also pretty bad... sort of late to dinner cafeteria flavour.

All of that is a shame because the place does have history and potential, and the setting is pretty as well.

We stayed here for a night, got a room without reservation, looked liked the nicest place in the area. We had a room with 2 queens overlooking the park, it was quiet and had air conditioning. Beds were comfy as well. We had trouble with reception on our TV, remote didn't work but they fixed it for us, however, reception was still crappy, we only got a few channels (3 - 4) that were watchable. We did go to the pub downstairs, it was a quiet night, no one there, we ordered food and beer and was adequate.

This is perhaps the best hotel in the area but it could be a good deal better. It is an imposing buulding, built for the managers supervising the construction of the paper mill which still dominates the town, and is in a good location, overlooking the mill pond and within walking distance of the the downtown area. I don't remember asking for a suite but we got one, with good-sized bedroom and sitting room, furnished comfortably if a little shabbily. My main reservation is the service. We were greeted in the least friendly and welcoming way we encountered anywhere in Newfoundland. Having been out of the hotel from 9am to 3.30 pm and returning to find our room had not been serviced, we did not even get an apology, let alone the offer of a cup of tea whl we sat in the lobby for this to be rectified. Neithe rof the restaurants looked that appealing so we ate elsewhere.

I've stayed here several times over the years. The staff have always been very helpful. The atmosphere of the historic building can't be beaten. It seems to be fairly well maintained. The gardens/grounds are very pretty in summer and winter.

For an old building the Glynmill is well maintained and updated. It still has a slightly musty smell, but great beds, modern bathrooms, wireless and flat screen TVs. Very nice grounds and walking trails. Main restaurant is decent, but better for breakfast than dinner. Lots of bus tours here are well handled and not a problem. Oft complained about (in other reviews), front desk staff treated us well on our two stays. Once when we were waiting at the desk to ask a question two women sitting in a back room just gave us bored stares. Someone should give them a lesson in customer device. A smile and brief word would have been nice.

A very nice older hotel with a traditional English look. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms large and well laid out. I have stayed here many times and I always feel very comfortable there. Very nice, classic style restaurant with great, reasonably priced food. There is also Henry's Pub in the basement and as well as a cozy wine bar. Nice places to relax in the evening.
The only reason I have not given 5/5 is that the front desk service is not what you would expect from this type of hotel. They could all do with some training in customer service.
There is a beautful trail next to the hotel. Nice for a relaxing stroll after dinner or a decent jog in the morning.
