This beautiful old B&B is actually 2 old homes on a hill connected to make one large building. The rooms vary in size and configuration, so there are many options to choose from. We selected the Verandah Room, a large corner room with a comfortable seating area and a king bed. As with most old B&Bs, there is no elevator and the outside steps from the parking area combined with the interior stairs make for some effort getting luggage into and out of the room. Breakfast was excellent both days we were there. The only glitch was mold in the shower/bath, but I feel certain the very accommodating owner will have that corrected by now. One can see downtown Saint John from your room, but it is a bit of hike, so the location is a downside. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your nice review. We try to stay current with these reviews and pay close attention to what folks are saying, and not saying. II wish more guest would make note of shortfalls when they are in the property like yourselves so we can address them rather than post it up here many months later. So again Thank you.Yes we did correct the slight mold in the shower sorry we let that get ahead of us. It is a constant battle particularly when it was as damp and wet as last summer.

We needed an overnight in St John and booked a room at HomePort. We arrived right off the ferry feeling a bit travel worn, and were graciously shown to our room hours early. The B&B or small hotel far exceeded our expectations. It retains all the charm of the original properties (now joined), but has clearly been updated to the modern era. We had a standard room, yet it was generously sized and beautifully decorated. We peeked into several of the unoccupied rooms nearby (they keep the doors open to encourage this, I think), and boy were we impressed. These suits are gorgeous and worth the upgrade if you can afford it. Breakfast was served in a lovely room with staff available to custom make the cooked item and clear the tables. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls, fruit salad, cereal, juice, and more were offered. Sitting with other guests was encouraged, but not necessary. But the great food and coffee stimulated lively discussions and we lingered over breakfast longer than normal. I really liked HomePort and hope to stay there again some day.

Hi Hhoffman

Thank you for the great review . You mentioned that we keep the doors open for our unoccupied rooms and yes we do that just so you can explore "snoop" the whole house. I always feel badly for those folks that come late and miss seeing the house. It really is quite spectacular and a real pleasure to be the custodian. Although we are the "owners" we are in fact just "custodians in time" as we will care and maintain the property for future generations.

enjoy, Ralph

Ralph was a terrific host. What a unique B&B they created by joining the 2 houses. Very spacious and inviting. Their breakfast was superb, and their local advice was right on. Even their 2 dogs were welcoming. Our room was quiet and spacious, and very comfortable. Ralph had to tighten one of the beds, but he was quick and very helpful. Would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone.

Hi and Thanks for the review. sorry about the squeaky bed. An easy fix and done within the hour and i checked the other bed of the same vintage and did pre-emptive fix on it also. the damp summer did number on many of our pieces of furniture, doors and cupboards. everything was sticking. Lets hope for a dryer summer in 2014.

We spent a night at the Homeport before we boarded the ferry for Nova Scotia. As others have said, it is two houses that have been converted into one huge house. We stayed in the Veranda room, overlooking the bay. Our room was very comfortable with nautical decor, however, with the dark furnishings and woodwork, the room did not present a warm feeling. You have to walk up a step to get to the bathroom, which might be inconvenient for some people. The have a large parlor area between the two houses. We had eggs benedict for breakfast, which was very good. Ralph and Karen, the innkeepers, were very friendly and helpful. And.....Digby and Nova were very welcoming.

Room Tip: Veranda room had an excellent view of the Bay of Fundy.

This is more a small inn than a B&B, but this is not negative. In fact it is two houses joined together a few years ago. Nice view of the bay from the hill. Hosts nice and helpful. Excellent scones for breakfast. Big room and confortable bed. Two small glitches, the room is carpeted ( i love hardfloor or tiles, think it is more hygienic but this is my personnal preference) and wifi doesn t work in all rooms ( didn t work in ours) but work in common areas.

Room Tip: If you need wifi ask a room where it works all time.

Hello Thanks for the comments With 10 rooms we are larger that most "Mom and Pop" B&Bs but we still try to offer the same personalized service and experience. As to the carpets they are vaccumed daily and cleaned often. It is a nessesary evil as so many of our original hardwood floors were destroyed in the 60's and 70's when carpet was installed. we are slowly going back to hardwood (7 of 10 rooms have all or partial wood floors)

WIFI- we had coverage for the whole house when we set up the system but with so many devices in the property (10 rooms = 20 people = 35 to 40 iphones ipads blackberry etc etc) on any given evening our bandwidth is severely drained even when the are not being used. But we have, like most properties, provided strong , free wifi in the meeting and parlor spaces

We stayed at Homeport Historic Inn B&B recently. What a fabulous place ! I would have stayed on for a week... instead of just one night. The inn keepers were wonderful people - we got the grand tour of this most extraordinary historic property. The room was most comfortable - decor to fit the house, wonderful sheets on a comnfy bed, clean renovated bathroom and to start off the day, an extravagant and delicious breakfast. I would return anytime.

I would have to agree with everyone's review on this B&B!

Ralph & Karen are great hosts & are very hospitable!

We arrived later in the day & were the last ones to check-in. Ralph & Karen upgraded our room free of charge! This is a very nice gesture and was very much appreciated! We had a room with a view of the Bay of Fundy!

The B&B is two houses connected by a great room! The grounds are nicely landscaped. The B&B itself is full of period charm!
The bathroom in our room was installed in 1937 and was decorated to match its era. Our bed was very comfortable!

Breakfast had a good assortment, including fresh fruit salad, freshly baked banana & chocolate chip muffins, cereal, yogurt, coffee, juice, blueberry pancakes, and sausage!

The "homey" feel of this B&B added to its charm!

Definitely recommended!
