My wife and I spent a week in our little VW camper and the night before our anniversary we decided to stay at The Hilton St. John... right on the harbor. What a great decision.

The staff could not have been more accommodating even to the point of making sure we had a good, safe parking space for our "too-tall-for-the-garage" camper. Robert, the Bellman on duty showed me where to park, suggested I wait until a van left so I could pull into the space safely.
Our reservation was accurate and they adjusted our room location to give us a better view of the harbor.

Our room was ready, clean, and had everything one might need to relax and enjoy the stay. The room was quiet even thought literally steps away was the excitement and hustle and bustle of Market Square and the downtown/harbor front area. Two giant cruise ships docked as we watched out our window.

If you're planning a visit to St. John and want an exceptioanl hotel experience, I suggest The Hilton St. John. You'll thank me.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbor view, upper floor room if you want to watch the activity in the harbor. It's fu...

Thank you for your very positive feedback. We are very pleased that you and your wife were able to relax and enjoy yourselves during your recent stay. Watching the cruise ships dock from your room is a wonderful sight and particularily common at this time of the year which is the peak for cruise arrivals. Today we have 3 large vessels in port including the Queen Mary!. Despite the activity outside we are happy that your room was quiet. Your overall comments on the accommodating nature of the staff are very much appreciated. We hope to be able to welcome you back again next year to help celebrate your anniversary week! Until then we wish you safe travels..Dermot

Stayed at the Hilton Saint John for three nights. The rooms and common areas are pretty standard Hilton, so I mark it average for that. The reason I rate it at higher than normal was sleep quality, friendly restaurant staff, and housekeeping.

As HHonors Diamond, I was entitled to complimentary breakfast each morning in the hotel restaurant. The spread is decent and has American and Continental items. The wait-staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. Also, the hotel offers the full breakfast to Diamonds and not just the continental part, which is always a nice touch.

First morning when housekeeping made up our room, they set-up all of our toiletries, paired up our shoes, and tidied in general. I expect housekeeping to clean, change sheets and towels, and refresh the room; making sure our stuff was neatly set out was a nice, extra touch.

If a hotel does not offer a good night’s sleep, though, what is the point? The beds and pillows were comfortable, the curtains held 100% of the light out, the air conditioning kept the room at a constant temperature and without too much noise, and the space was very quiet. All of that added up to excellent sleep quality.

Otherwise, the location is quite good, right at the edge of Saint John’s old centre. It is connected via enclosed walkways to restaurants and shopping. There are plenty of places to eat within a five-minute walk.

I recommend the Saint John Hilton.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and particularily pleased that you found the sleep quality to your satisfaction. Comfort and a good nights sleep are fundamental to any hotel stay. Also your reference to the friendliness of the staff is very pleasing as our team-members pride themselves on being representative of the Maritimes and its renowned hspitality. Many of our guests comment on our buffet breakfast with many favourable comments on the variety and Chefs focus on healthy items. Thank you for your loyalty to the Hilton brand, and as a Diamond member we hope to welcome you back again soon, either with your family or on business. Until then we wish you safe travels..Dermot

We stayed in a clean room with very comfortable bed and lovely harbor view. The hotel was across the street from St. John's Ale House which was delicious with amazing beers (moosehead cask ale)! Would stay again when visiting.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August. It was a nice hotel. The staff was friendly and it was clean. I was not impressed with Concierge. When I asked about a couple of local restaurants he said he had never been there and knew nothing about them. They were both very highly rated place on TA. Isn't it his job to know about these things? The location is great. You can walk to many restaurants. You can get to the convention center and shopping area without going outside. That was nice when it was raining. You can walk to many places in town. Parking is $20 a day. The garage is owned by the city. It is same one used for the convention center. Internet was $13.95 a day or free in the lobby. Overall we were pleased with this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a bay view.

Thank you for your review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay with us, and found the location and access to local attractions to be great. You are correct in saying that the concierge should have a sound knowledge of local restaurants. Training is being undertaken with new teammembers so they are now aware both of exact location and general offerings for all local establishments. Thank you again for taking the time to write and we wish you safe travels.

IN A NUTSHELL - Not worth the money. Staff don't care. Room was falling apart.

In today's competitive accommodation market, Hotel, Motel, Bed and Breakfast, Inn, and Hostel's should have zero overlap. However, this is not the case with the Hilton Waterfront in Saint John, New Brunswick. More and more, the travelling population should see a real separation from a Hotel and a Motel, and not just by what the establishment charges.

The Hilton promised a King bed, but delivered a Queen in a small room, like a motel. The carpet was smelly with dampness, likely mold, like a cheap motel. Staff were clearly not interested in their jobs, no service with a smile, and they were interested in other things possibly going back to University or College than serving those of us who are spending $200.00 for a night in what is supposed to be a quiet and comfortable hotel, not a strip mall motel.

My wife said the bed was comfortable (for a Hilton) but the bathroom was sub-par. I couldn't tell about the bed as I really needed the extra leg room on the bed to stretch my leg after an operation on my foot days earlier. There were no bedbugs, and we check every time.

The sink counter in the bathroom was actually falling down and torn away from the wall on both sides. Towels were very sub-par for a Hilton and more like something you would get in a department store or they were very old and washed beyond their life-cycle.

Location is good once you find the hotel, and highway access is good. The building is on the water, so request a water-view or there is no benefit. Otherwise, save $50 - $100 at a Hampton Inn or other which will honor all of the reservation, including size of bed.

There is a few good restaurants within 200 steps of the hotel entrance, and plenty of great pubs within 1,000 steps. Saint John is a nice pub friendly place and the seafood is really good, just not at this hotel. Lots of micro-breweries in the area well worth trying.

The Hilton lobby is very blah, except for the windows overseeing the harbor, which is interesting if you plan on standing while drinking your coffee. For some reason, this hotel didn't have the foresight to add a really convenient sitting room or area to enjoy your morning or rest in the afternoon from within the hotel while watching the harbor activity. Bizarre.

And now for my favorite area of critique, the staff - service levels - which I expect to be in line with the fee I am agreeing to pay. When entering a hotel, one expects to be greeted, a smile, and how can i help you? Instead, we have to make all the effort. It really seemed as though, we should have been paid to serve ourselves at this Hilton. When i called down to say that the room had a Queen and not a King, the suggestion was that we could go to the Party floor where they had an available King. I hope this is as unsettling for you as it is me. I don't want the party floor, I want what i paid for, and BTW, we didn't get it. Both times we called to see what could be done, the individual could not have cared the least - it was alarming.

There are very, very few times in life, you just have to walk away shaking your head. Sadly, this was one such case.

So, we will not go back, and Hilton will loose about 10 - 20 nights accommodation from this couple, plus those who read this review and decide that it is not the risk to go there.

If you like this review, please indicate so.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologise sincerely for the service failures you experienced during your recent stay with us. Your comments are well taken and please accept that this is not how we wish our guests to be treated. Apart from you not receiving the bed type which you had reserved, the lack of empathy and lack of a satisfactory resolution is not acceptable. By attempting to keep guests not involved with a wedding party on a separate floor we simply inconvenienced those guests to a greater degree. Again we are deeply apologetic. We have take the necessary steps to ensure that this does not reoccur. Despite your unsatisfactory experience we do hope that you will allow us an opportunity to greet you as our guest in the future and demonstrate the true levels of service we provide. I would ask that you contact me directly when you return to Saint John so i may meet you and apologise in person. With kind regards, Dermot.

I have stayed here each time I visit Saint John on business. Always happy with the room and the service.

And they now have re-opened their restaurant, so a much nicer space - with an enclosed patio and view.

It is an older property, but decently maintained, wonderfully located, and such friendly and capable service!

Thank you for coming back and staying with us again, and thank you for your review. We are very pleased that our location is convenient for your business trips and that you are pleased with the room and the level of service you receive. Especially pleasing is how you enjoyed the York Bistro and were able to enjoy the harbourside patio. We still have a few weeks of patio weather left so we hope you can still enjoy it on your next business trip to Saint John! Until then we wish you safe travels..Dermot

We stayed two nights, really central location. We had a two queen harbor view, perfect. Staff were great, small problem in room fixed while we were at dinner. Good selection of restaurants really close by. Tim hortons across street (in market square) for cheap breakfast option. Did not eat in the hotel. Parking $20 per day, over height cars (with roof box on) don't fit and need to park in small oversize lot, we always got a space. A great Saint John base on our road trip.
