Marshlands Inn
Ranked #2 of 4 Sackville B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Marshlands Inn was the perfect base for my trip to Sackville to hike and birdwatch. It is just a block from the entrance to the outstanding Waterfowl Park circuit trail, which I walked every morning before breakfast. Barry and Lucy were helpful and engaging and the restaurant is very good, though I only ate dinner there, not breakfast.

I stayed on the second floor in spacious Room 25, with a comfortable queen bed, desk, dresser and spotless bath with a huge tub and separate shower. It overlooks the garden and is quiet. There are windows on two sides and it might get plenty of light, but was too rainy during my stay to tell.

Every visit to the Marshlands is a relaxing, enjoyable, "no surprises" experience. Lucy and Barry are great hosts and always make us feel like we are coming home for a visit. After a few days we were joined by our very, very best friends, who received the same warm welcome from Lucy and Barry.
You cannot go wrong with any choice on the menu, and bring your appetite because the servings are large - in fact too large. I rarely finish everything on my plate, except at breakfast.
I could not write this review without mentioning the blueberry pancakes. Ask that Barry prepare them because no one does it as well.
The front verandah has now been restored and you can sit outside and enjoy the surroundings, where you will probably see a pheasant stroll by and hear a woodpecker digging out his next meal.
We are already looking forward to our next visit in September!

I stayed at the Marshland Inn in January 2013 while visiting Sackville for a tour of Mount Allison University. The room was large and clean with interesting nick nacks giving the place a homey feel or a bit like Grandma's house. We stayed in the Carriage House where there are several rooms. The Inn is walking distance to the University. The staff was welcoming. The restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast and dinner there.

New Year's Eve dinner at the Marshlands was lovely. There was a choice of five first courses: including soup, salads, and seafood; and five entrees, including chicken, salmon, beef, pork, and seafood. The vegetables were plentiful and fresh.

The Inn's public rooms are beautifully decorated for the holidays--it must take days to set up the festive displays. We have stayed at the Inn on several occasions (not this time, though) and the rooms in the main house are comfortable, filled with antiques, and nicely appointed. This place is well worth a visit, whether you are local or just passing through.

Room Tip: The main house has the charming old rooms; the carriage house is more "motel-like." There...

We have been eating at Marshlands Inn for the past 25 years. It's just the past several years we have realized how special it is. After eating in the noisy crowded restaurants of Halifax, we have found a special sancutary in dining at the Marshlands. Just finished a quiet Sunday light dinner at the Marshlands. Great food, of course their homemade rolls and super seafood chowder made it an enjoyable meal. Lucy decorates the Inn in a seasonal theme, with Christmas carols playing in the background along with her annual Christmas decorations, makes a great way to start the season.
Its nice to see the old traditions. Its worth the experience.

We had to wait for at least five minutes (after ringing the bell twice) at reception. Thought we would be staying in the main house ( which is beautiful) but we got stuck in a very ordinary room in the carriage house. We had a TV but learned that the rooms in the main house do not have TVs. There is a charge of 0.50 for every phone call .......even 1 -800 numbers ......very cheesy and cheap. Very unfriendly "welcome" ..........never again.

Room Tip: I am sure there are better Inns in Sackville....this inn just happens to be the most famous because...
