Had the chance to have lunch there twice. Wow, what great food. Very small but huge flavour. Really is a hole in the wall. Try the warm rice salad dish. Sushi rolls are very good. I'll be back

“Conscientious Chef makes superior Sushi”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

We are great fans of Sushi and have sampled it in many large cities as well as in sushi-saturated Halifax where we lived for many years. So, admittedly, we didn't expect much from this modest restaurant tucked into a small corner of Dolma Foods - but in the last two weeks, we have eaten there twice and both times have come away impressed…

The first time we ate the "Very Vegan" Maki roll consisting of sautéed, teriyaki-style yams, fresh mango, avocado, roasted coconut, cilantro and organic greens. We also sampled a salad called "The Original". (Apparently, it is their #1 best seller and a truly artful and delectable creation.) During the second time we dined at The Sushi Bar in Dolma Foods, Jeremy introduced himself and prepared three different vegan Maki rolls off-menu, thus catering to our dietary choice without hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed every mouth-watering piece just as much as we enjoyed getting to know Jeremy as a former vegetarian with an artistic background who values high quality food that is grown locally and ethically sourced, whenever possible. Unfortunately, Moncton is a city where finding local suppliers of ethically based and sustainable foods - especially regarding seafood - is a struggle. Still Jeremy has higher standards and tries to adhere to them despite the obstacles. Accordingly, you will NOT find bluefin tuna, a fish vastly overfished (often illegally) and sadly still a staple in 'normal' sushi restaurants, on his menu. Wow!
Here is a Sushi chef who puts his conscience before profits; who rather swims against the main-stream than succumb to it… Very endearing!

While Moncton has come a long way in the past ten years, according to our beliefs it still has an even longer way to go in order to appeal to a more ethically conscious clientele.
However, before we met Chef Jeremy and sampled his infectious enthusiasm for fresh, ethically sourced ingredients and his creative concoctions that awaken the senses, we didn't think it would be possible at all. Now, we have hope! In fact, we have no hesitation saying that Jeremy’s Sushi is superior to any Sushi we have ever tasted during our vegan and non-vegan times! What can we say? We are just very impressed…

“Pleasantly surprised!”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Did not expect much from this tiny little cafe/sushi restaurant as it is attached to a larger market that is not even focused on Asian foods which might throw some off, but I can safely say that the food is definitely worth a try!

Go for the lunch specials as that's what I can recommend (did not try the evening menu). You shouldn't be disappointed!

“AMAZING SUSHI!”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

If you're in Moncton, you have to try the sushi at FUGU sushi! It is the best around. The chef uses fine ingredients and I can honestly say it's the best sushi I have ever had. I am a bit of a sushi snob too and this chef really is talented. You can tell he has done his homework, yet he adds his creative touch to every plate he prepares. Check it out!

“Best Sushi in Town by far!!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

I've had sushi at Nobu in Budapest Hungary, at Sushi of Gari in NYC and different other spots in North America and I can say that Fugu Sushi Bar is just as good. No other sushi restaurant comes close in this region. The chef, Jeremie Doiron is a true artist. He knows how to mix flavors to create amazing dishes. The prices are comparable to other sushi restaurants in the region, but he uses ingredients that are way better quality. And...you won't find his Miso Soup loaded with M.S.G like all other sushi spots in town, because he makes it the traditional way, by using home made Dashi (Japanese Soup Stock). Anyways, if you want the best sushi around, try Fugu Sushi Bar first.
