Owner description: We are currently renovating part of our existing building to provide an enhanced visitor experience, as well as in preparation for joining the new pavilion under construction to the existing facility. Because of the central location of this work, and because of the nature of the projects involved, the building will be temporarily closed to visitors from January 18, 2016, until May, 2016. We regret the inconvenience to visitors, and look forward to welcoming you into our renovated space in May. The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, a gift to the people of New Brunswick from Lord Beaverbrook (Sir Max Aitken), features works by Canadian and British artists and a unique sample of works from international artists. The Gallery exhibits an exciting mix of works from its own collection as well as works and exhibitions on loan from other institutions.

This art gallery is one of the best spaces Fredericton has to offer. It has a good collection of permanent items and interesting guest exhibitions. UNB students get in free and other uni students get in for 5$. A nice way to spend a couple hrs.

Thrilled to see Santiago El Grande again. Last saw it 40 years ago and has haunted me ever since! Was as amazing as my childhood memory of it. Rest of gallery was a blur since it is overwhelmed by the Dali...

This is a world-class, moderately-sized art gallery. In addition to displaying a variety of artwork, its pivotal paintings are perhaps three works by Salvador Dali. They alone make this a "must see" destination. But ensure that you ask the gallery staff to interpret these paintings. Gerry Rymes, the museum interpreter, spent more than a half hour explaining the complexities of these paintings. His knowledgeable and enthusiastic descriptions were superb and added immensely to our experience. And, yes, he suggested that we lie on the floor to appreciate the overarching perspective from that vantage point. He also explained the background of other works in the gallery. The Beaverbrook contains fourteenth to nineteenth artworks and furnishings as well. At the time of our visit there was a display of contemporary art. The gallery is of a size that a visit is not overwhelming but is a very personal experience.

Living here, one often ignores treasures such as this. A small community with a facility of the scope and quality of the Beaverbrook is very fortunate. Biographers of Lord Beaverbrook point to his hard-nosed character, but it appears to have served him (and Fredericton) well in this instance - Kreighoff, Group of Seven, Dali, Old Masters, modern classics all in one place. A hint - take some extra time and enjoy the porcelain, tapestries and furniture as well as the paintings.

I visited the gallery for the second time last week. Their permanent collection is nice, with a few Dalis and medieval pieces, but mainly comprised of 18th century British landscape and portrait artists. It's a limited collection. The Jaret Belliveau photo exhibit was interesting, as was the exhibit on New Brunswick pop art, and the exhibit on Lord Beaverbrook was really very good. What struck me most was that our docent seemed to have limited knowledge about the majority of the pieces, or art history in general. He obviously had a few stories that he knew well, but brushed off questions that went into any depth or touched on an area he clearly didn't know. For the area, the gallery stands out as a cultural cornerstone, but certainly doesn't compare with other galleries in Canada and worldwide. I wouldn't recommend it as a highlight for tourists.
