We are frequent if irregular visitors to Winnipeg and this will now be our hotel of choice. There are many good things about this hotel and in the past we have unfortunately found that many of those positive attributes are not shared with its competitors. Here are some of the things we enjoyed in order of importance to us...
1. Nothing went wrong. The reservation went as booked, no changes or problems at all. You might expect this, but after experiencing otherwise elsewhere, we no longer take competence for granted.
2. Easy, immediate, and friendly shuttle service to the airport which is basically just around the corner. We considered staying at the hotel situated right at the airport where our traveling companions were but they needed a shuttle anyway, so advantage us as far as we were concerned. One of the desk clerks is the driver which I thought a little strange at first but it is actually a very efficient method that other hotels should adopt IMO.
3. Inexpensive long term parking if you are flying and leaving your vehicle behind as we were. The parking lot was safe and the rules for parking were the most liberal and friendly I have come across.
4. Staff were professional and mostly very friendly. We did have one female desk clerk that was on the edge of rude but the others made up for her. In her defense, it was very late and perhaps she just had a blunt personality. But she needs to change or change jobs. Wasn't an issue or anything, she just suffered in comparison to the rest of the staff.
5. The rooms were nice, clean, and quiet. Beds were comfortable.
6. Two restaurants on premises including a 24/7 Denny's which we never went to, but noted for future visits because of the convenience factor.
The only reason I never gave the hotel a perfect rating was because the length of our stays was very short both times and therefore I felt uncomfortable granting it perfection. And because of the one female desk clerk. During our late night arrival, she also failed to tell us how the secure elevators worked so we hauled our luggage into the elevator, watched the doors close, and stood there like dummies for a minute or two before we realized we had to insert our room entrance card. We laughed at ourselves but still felt she could have informed us. We'll know better the next time and there definitely will be a next time because it's a good place to stay in Winnipeg. And who knows, maybe that one desk clerk will turn out to be nicer than we thought. Everyone deserves a second chance and in the meantime we are looking forward to returning.

I found this to be a surprisingly comfortable and pleasant place to stay. The lobby is gorgeous with dark glass tile and very stylish furniture; there's a pretty fountain out front which is unfortunately fouled by the smoking community. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
We had a room with 2 double beds on the third floor and if I could buy the beds I would - they were new and ultra comfy; the linens were clean, fresh and very attractive. The toiletries were really nice, all verbena scented, and housekeeping left extras the second day. The towels were a bit old and scratchy, but water pressure and plumbing were good, and there was plenty of space in the bathroom to put out my stuff - any hotel that doesn't give guests at least 2 square feet for their personal items should be ashamed! Very stylish vessel sink in the bathroom too.
There's a 24-hour Denny's where the service was again very friendly and fast, and Chop's, an upscale restaurant that's a bit pricey but the food is wonderful - best prime rib my sister had had in years, days later she is still raving about it. I had the double cut porkchop which was excellent and serving sizes were abundant.
Location is 5 minutes from the airport, access to downtown via Sargent or Portage super easy, access to Assiniboine Park via Route 90 also super easy. I was really happy to find this hotel and will definitely stay here again. My sister stayed at another nearby hotel last year and agreed this was much nicer, a very clean, efficient and friendly place, worth a return.

Just stayed at the Sandman for 4 nights in a "standard" room with 2 double beds. Double beds seem a bit unusual in N. America, but, whatever. The beds, and pillows, were very very comfortable. Room had a hide-a-bed sofa and chair, which were comfortable to sit on. Coffee maker, but no mini fridge, which would have been nice.
The towels, however, were thin and scratchy. However, one day they towels were soft and absorbent, which was a treat. Suggestion to hotel, please replace all the scratchy towels with new and soft ones; it makes a huge difference! Price was $140/night.
Stayed in a king room in the past, which was lovely, with microwave and mini fridge, and nicer towels!
Also, when room was cleaned on first 2 days, tub wasn't.
Convenient with 24 hour Denny's and upscale Chop restaurant on site.
Called for shuttle when we arrived at airport, and was told it would be there in 5-10 minutes; after waiting for 15, we took a taxi to the hotel. That was disappointing.

Love this place have stayed here twice. 2 great restaurants on site. Rooms are spacious and clean. Wireless actually works. Staff are helpful. Pool and hottub are perfect temps. Nice fitness room. Only thing I didn't like is that you have to walk through the Lobby to get to the pool and the restaurants. You can also access them through the parking lot, but that's also not convenient for the pool. No showers available for the pool, at least we couldn't find them.

The hotel is nice with a half decent price, but no one could make me go back there only because of the front desk staff. I've been there twice and both times the front desk staff was rude, unwilling to help, condescending with no sense of hospitality at all. This hotel has lost business from myself and a few others who have had the same experience with them.
