My friends and I were at the Keg on February 15/2013 to watch the Winnipeg Jets game and we had a blast. The bartenders were very attentive even though it was a very busy night for them. They provided plenty of insight into the different types of food that we could choose from. My baseball sirloin steak was made to perfection, my friends love their prime rib hamburger but lamented the fact that they did not order the steak that I did. The staff always made sure that if we were not drinking alcohol, that we also had plenty of water to drink. We had a great time and we will go again.

There is a keg fairly close to our home so we are there quite often, i especially like going there after being away to Mexico or Cuba as there is nothing like good old Canadian beef...there servers are all very good as well, especially Brandon we try to request him but his section is alwasy full as he is such a good waiter I think everyone requests him!

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dining experience on Saturday night last at the new Keg at Kenaston and McGillivray Blvd. We had given our good neighbors a gift certificate to The Keg for looking after our toy poodle while we were in The Dominican Republic. They used the gift certificate on the wife's birthday and told us that they hadn't been for a while to The Keg on Portage Avenue and so they went and told us they really enjoyed their steak dinners. They also said that the Portage location had been renovated and was very nice. The following Saturday, my husband and I decided to try the Portage Avenue Keg for dinner. We went at around 6:30 p.m. though as we had gone to see Les Miserables at the theatre first. It was so busy at that time with so many people waiting for a table before us that we decided an hour was just too long to wait as we were hungry. Even the lounge was full so we couldn't sit and have a drink to wait. We decided on the following Saturday to try the new location at 2034 McGillivray Blvd. We also decided to go for an earlier dinner at 5:00 p.m. as there are usually fewer diners at that time, we thought. Well, this location was busy even at 5:00 p.m. but not as many people waiting as the week before at the other location. We were able to wait in the lounge and were told the wait time would be 25 to 30 minutes. That was fine with us so we went in and sat up at the bar. The bar/lounge is lovely with a humongous (looked like quartz) countertop that is in a long horseshoe shape. It was beautiful. There were 6 people working behind the bar and they were friendly, quick and efficient even though there were lots of folks sitting in the lounge and at the bar and they would also have been making drinks for the restaurant guests. It was still daylight outside and there are windows in the bar too which looked very nice with the window treatments that were slatted blinds that looked like wood. Julia made our martini's and poured them out in front of us and told us to enjoy and that if we needed anything at all that her name was Julia and she said this with a big smile. We appreciated her friendly attitude and her efficient service. We got buzzed for our table just as we were finishing our drinks. We were seated in a nice booth and we were impressed with the dining room decor and also the fact that the air had no odor to it. It was neutral. No steak grill odors or smoky odors or any odors. We had noticed the previous week at the Portage location that the air was sort of stinky. Not sure what that was......Our server arrived promptly and introduced himself as Matt. Matt was very friendly, efficient and informative about the menu and the wine on our table. It was a Cab and we decided to give it a try with our dinner It was called Snap Dragon and was a California Cabernet Sauvignon. It was very nice indeed. We both wanted steak and lobster but also wanted to save room for dessert and special coffees after dinner so we ordered the 7 ounce filet mignon and the two Atlantic lobster tails and split the steak and had one lobster tail with it each. So we started with the Mushrooms Neptune that were stuffed with crab meat and cream cheese and served hot in an escargot dish. Delicious! The bread that our waiter had brought to our table was also delicious! Then we had a baked potato (it was huge) that we also split with our steak and lobster with our vegetables and steamed asparagus that we ordered extra as we like that. Even splitting our entrees, we were already feeling quite full but we weren't giving in! We waited a bit and then ordered a creme brulee and split that and a Monte Cristo coffee and a B52 Coffee to top it all off! Everything was so delicious!!! Our bill came to $171.48 with the tax so we called it a $200.00 bill with the tip. We don't always spend that much on a dinner for the two of us but it was worth every penny! We are going back for a re-run very soon! We couldn't fault one thing that evening from the decor to the service to the food to the ambience to the bill! We've had some bad experiences lately with restaurants having poor service and poor food so our visit to The Keg on McGillivray was like a breath of fresh air! If you haven't tried the new Keg location on McGillivray yet, we would highly recommend it to you!!! :)

I love the Keg! Great food and service but somewhat on the expensive side. It is dark inside the Keg and I went to the one downtown on Garry street and could barely see the person across from me. A little weird but the food is ALWAYS delicious! Oscar sirloin is to die for!! The veggies and mashed potatoes are very good!

I want to clarify that the average rating I gave overall was against other restaurants of this calibre and reputation, not all restaurants in general. We had made reservations and deliberately arrived a bit early to have a drink in the bar. The restaurant was wall-to-wall people. It was packed. It was also very well staffed and while it was standing room only in the bar there were lots of bartenders and servers. Our table was ready quite close to reservation time. Our sever was professional, friendly and knowledgable. We had scallops and garlic shrimp for an appetizer, spinach salad with goat chesse, steak oscar and the steak special which with "creole". I was warned that the creole might be spicy which it was not. There was nothing to be unhappy with, everything about the meal was fine. I suppose it was the predictability of the franchise that made the meal a bit disappointing, there was no creative risk involved.
