Ate here last night on a whim. Was in town for a night and was intrigued by the name. We later found out that the restaurant had been ranked as one of Canada's best. The fried potatoes were great as was the cod. Soba noodles where a little bit of a let down. The deer and Rabbit dish was over cooked but the pork belly made up for it. Nice affordable wine list was a pleasant surprise as was the small but fun cocktail list.

Overall the food was very good. The desserts were a little disappointing . I liked the not being rushed and the portion size was fair for the price point. No wow factor here. I would return. A group of four is perfect for sharing

I stopped in to this restaurant after the theatre with a group of friends and absolutely loved it. From the decor, to the atmosphere, to the menu and finally the service everything was great!
I chose a lighter meal that evening which was the Kale and Quinoa Salad, and completely loved it. The menu was small, but fantastic and their use of market fresh produce and meats made it a very interesting and I was keen to try everything they had to offer. I cannot wait to go back and sample other items from the menu. I would highly recommend it!

I love everything about deer + almond, from the magical-modern decor (edison lights and deer antlers?!) to the playful (and absolutely delicious) plates. This is the perfect spot to spend a couple of candlelit hours, sampling their killer (and super creative) cocktails and whatever specials are on offer (smoked oysters! Scallops! Short ribs!). Everything is seriously so good.

The menu at deer + almond is seasonal (just as menus should be), and it changes often (at least it did in between our first and second visits, which weren't too far apart). All of the plates are meant to be shared, and each one arrives at the table as its prepared, which lets you enjoy every bite at a really lovely, leisurely pace.

The soba noodles stood out on our second visit. They are served cold, with a ton of delicious veggies, and a Thai vinaigrette that packs the perfect amount of heat. Benny & the Jets is the restaurant's take on a traditional eggs benedict and it is also absolutely delicious (right down to the housemade bacon and brioche). Steelhead trout was perfectly prepared. And then there's the chicken, which is out of control. It is poached, then deep-fried and topped with a grilled pickled peach, feta cheese and honey. So good. Just make sure you save room for one (or two) of the desserts (the peanut butter semifreddo is my fave).

Drinks are also delish. Their old-fashioned comes spiked with black-pepper simple syrup (my boyfriend now refuses to drink them anywhere else). And then there is the very good cocktail, which is....ummm, very good. I also love that they serve Lucky by the can (where else can you get a beer for 3 bucks?!).

Service is sweet and attentive. The chef even made an appearance at our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. And yes, it got a little noisy on the weekend, but who cares? There is a reason its THIS busy!
