“Great visit - love the bison”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Took my sister here while she was visiting from out of town this past weekend. She really enjoyed seeing the bison.

Admission is usually $7 per adult, but this past weekend, they had a festival, so we got a deal at $3 each. :)

Geese are migrating, so lots of geese around right now. I believe they're having "migration dinners" now too: if you book ahead, you get dinner and can watch the geese fly in. I've never done that at Fort Whyte Alive though.

Would have loved to spend more time, wandering on the hiking trails and/or the floating boardwalks. Next time!

Thank you for your visit, sounds like you enjoyed our Fall Family Festival day as well as some of the migration magic. We appreciate that you think of us while having out of town visitors. We hope to see you enjoying the board walks and other trails in the future. Of course right now you might need to try it on snowshoes which is another great experience out here.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your visit.

“Beautiful outdoor space near the city”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Farm and craft market outside the welcome center. Millions of geese on the lakes since it was migration season had some of the trails blocked, but there were still miles available to walk.

“A great way to spend a day in nature”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

We visited Fort Whyte this summer as we were passing through Winnipeg. We had pre-booked the prairie safari, however, in hindsight there was no need to book. We were lucky that we were the only ones on the tour so we were able to go round most sites and have a great chat with our tour guide. The bison were a great sight and we enjoyed canoeing on the lake. Our tour guide was very informative and friendly. We got a very interesting history lesson and got to throw some spears along the way! My only complaint is that there is no public transport to and from the venue and it is quite a way out of town. We were lucky because we found friendly people to drive us. This is not clearly advertised on their website and for a minute there we thought we were not going to make it there for the tour at all. It is a great place to visit, and there are some nice trails to walk if the tour is not of interest, it's a shame about accessibility.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your tour on our Bison and north trail. It sounds like you participated in our Signature Experience A Prairie Legacy: the bison and its people. We are proud of this great Manitoba experience steeped in our cultural history.

Thank you for your comment regarding the website and public transportation. I will look at making it more clear. There are no buses that come out right to us as of yet but we are still in the city limits so taxis are available if you do not have a vehicle. We are also working on building relationships with our hotel partners to see if we can make us even more accessible for travelers.

“Get into nature!”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

A visit to Fort Whyte Alive in the middle of nature, far from town and everything... You will relax and enjoy taking a tour. I liked those small animals prairie dogs but also the great bisons. That place where people try to maintain and preserve nature and wild places is great. A hard work for those who help that non-profit foundation!!! Other way we do not have nothing. Go with your kids and show them what really means nature!
