Our time was short so we only visited the museum and not the Science centre or the Planetarium. It was great. Enjoyed every bit of it especially the reproduction of the HBC Nonsuch.

This is one of my favorite things to do in the Peg. I am a museum buff/historian and this is one of the best museums anywhere in relation to Manitoba and its history. There is lots to see with many surprises. Great anytime but even better on a winter day.

We visited the above exhibit. It had great documentation. There was three more explanatory videos. There was one mummy on display and various artifacts. Several heads were reconstructed of studied mummy. One interest display was of the spices used in the mummification which you could smell.
With all the written explanation, I think it would be very hard for anyone under ten to be interested.

My wife is a Museum nut and I just go along for the ride..The Manitoba Museum was able to make us both happy. I could do any enjoyable walk through the history of Manitoba while my wife could read in detail everything that happened. I enjoyed a cup of coffee while my "better half" was basking in the history of Manitoba.

Manitoba Museum offers an outstanding look at local natural history starting 4 billion years ago and ending this morning. Heavy on geology for the first few rooms, it then moves to how the landscape and wildlife shaped the people. Then how the Hudson's Bay Company shaped the people. And finally, how the people are shaping nature and the landscape.
Don't miss the fascinating exhibit on the difference between a man's and woman's parka.
The museum can take 3 hours. The planetarium and science exhibit are extra.
The gift shop is weak for a museum of this stature.
