Description: Bernstein's Deli has served the River Heights community for over 32 years. We have a diverse mix of classic deli fare, Jewish specialties and diner food. Most of what is served in the restaurant is available to take home from the deli. The majority of the food is made from scratch and with a healthy dose of love. We offer 6 types of burger patties made from scratch (beef, turkey, bison, bison reuben, black bean wild rice and chickpea almond), mix our pancake batter in small batches, pound, coat and fry our own chicken schnitzel and fingers and so much more. Old World offerings like chopped liver, gefilte fish, potato latkes, beef brisket, matzo ball soup (along with over 20 other types of soup), the list goes on and on. We also import grocery items from South Africa and sell our famous biltong out of our back freezer (ask for it at the deli counter). Lots of choices for those that are vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, picky, fussy or just plain hard to please, our goal is to please them all! Open almost every day, we currently only close on Victoria Day, Christmas Day, Remembrance Day and Canada Day. We offer office catering, meals of condolence, custom cooking solutions, holiday meal catering and anything else you may need.

“Great Deli”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

I attended a wedding breakfast at Bernsteins and the food was great! Bagels/lox/cream cheese, cinnamon bread, delicious scrabbled eggs and great coffee. I would definitely come here again when I am in Winnipeg.

“stick with the breakfast”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

The breakfasts are very good. Real potatoes are grilled. Eggs are cooked as you request everything is well done. Service is not particularly quick but they are pleasant and deliver everything as requested.

“Good food but...”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

This is a deli experience that has long been a fixture in River Heights. The restaurant was once part of a Safeway store but now is a restaurant with a deli. The benches and tables are formica plastic and there isn't much in the way of ambiance. But that is not why the place was packed for lunch the other day. The menu is kosher deli. My business associate ordered a egg salad that was so packed that it required a fork and , at that, he had to take half of it home, it was so large. I opted for one of the many soups (many of which are refrigerated and available for sale in 750 ml container). The soup was thick and loaded with vegetables and barley, just the way Grandma used to make it. Despite the fact that there were several people serving and cooking, service was slow but that didn't seem to bother the patrons. They were there for the food and few I thought were disappointed..

“Hidden Treasure That's Worth The Wait”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Great to find a hidden treasure like Bernstein's Deli which is almost lost in a strip mall.

The menu is far reaching and the food quality is deli-licious. Service is absolutely pathetic but the wait is almost worth it. 20 to 30 minute waits seem to be normal but the food quality makes it a manageable pain.

From Bison burgers to lox & bagels, it's all delicious. Lunch is a crowded, noisy time and great fun for a foodie.

Definitely a revisit is in order for this excellent dining experience.

“The Last Real Deli?”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Bernstein's Delicatessen is the finest establishment I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The following items on the menu are respectively, the best in Winnipeg: Corned Beef on Rye. Turkey Breast on Rye with hot mustard, Clubhouse, Beef and Barley Soup, Borscht. It's not even up for debate.

The prices are insanely reasonable. So much so that I often leave feeling guilty.

I've had a crush on Marla since I was a small child.
