“Just ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

I stayed here in March 2012. Everything about it was just 'ok'. The hotel building is of course historic and beautiful because of that. I had a heavy suitcase, and there wasn't anyone there to help carry it up the many steps at the entrance. The guest services people were checking 2 of us in. We were both told different information about services and what was around. I was glad to have overheard the other conversation going on as it was much more informative.
The rooms were small, and quite frankly very outdated! It can be a historic hotel and still keep the furniture up to date. The TV was a good 15 years old. Bed was super soft. Desk didn't have a chair with a back, but an old bench, not good for trying to do a bit of work.
The restaurant was also 'just ok', it was very busy, and took a while to be served.

I would give the hotel another chance. It was an ok stay, clean, but I definitley prefer the innards of the room itself to be a bit more up to date.

Spent 2 nights at the Fort Garry in Winnipeg on Sept 17 & 18, 2012. I travel a ton on business spending over 120 nights on the road. The Fort Garry was a tremendous value and brought back some of the glamour to travel that has been destroyed by the travel industry over the last couple of decades.

Really enjoyed the historic feel of the hotel, the grand rooms, well appointed rooms, etc. The Palm Room restaurant had excellent food at reasonable prices. Staff was very courteous and helpful. This was a 5 star experience - I will be back!

I stayed here last year and everything was seamless and perfect. This time around it was missing that je ne sais qoi I had the first time. Staff was 100% perfect. Could not have asked for anything more. Bell hops, housekeeping and valet were all top of the line. Hotel still had that old world charm and class....BUT the room I stayed in was suffice but not amazing like last time. I booked a room with two beds... My first visit It was roomy and even had a sitting area a couch and a dresser with mirror. This room had no couch, no sitting area and no dresser with mirror and the tv was the old school tube tv which is ridiculous do they even sell those in stores anymore? also charging for internet is ridiculous! The breakfast was delicious and included and was just as awesome as i remembered. I had a one day spa getaway with my girlfriend... 10 spa is amazing again.. except for the fact they were trying to make me wear my robe... excuse me if i dont want to wear it i wont! so other than the room being just suffice than being amazing i give them a 4 star rating this time... i will be going back again lets hope for a better experience room wise!

We stayed for Anniversary night and spa. room was great bed incredible, king bed with feather tic.
My husband wanted to take the bed home. Everyone was polite and accommodating. Bell hops parked car and we did not worry. Breakfast was included in our room price, excellent. Worth the little extra for the pampering.

Room Tip: ask for room with feather tic on bed.

Upon check in I was not happy with the room. The front desk staff were very eager to offer a better room and ensure I was happy. They were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Definitely a good place to stay if you enjoy a boutique style hotel

This grand historic hotel in Winnipeg continues to provide memorable
high quality experiences for its guests. The delightful and impressive entry into the hotel with the opulent spacious public rooms is wonderful and unique. Take some time to enjoy the details! The most memorable moment however, for us was the truly magnificent Sunday brunch. It stands up to its reputation as a very special feast in a very special setting. Get a reservation for late morning or early afternoon seating and get ready for a most memorable meal. The variety is amazing. The desserts are almost frightening, especially if you add the home made ice cream. The high quality of the main selections often include local meats, wild salmon and other seafood. We enjoyed some of the various organic choices. If you are a coffee lover, ask for the fair trade, organic French press dark roast coffee to finish off this feast. It is truly a meal fit for royalty! The fine service was a bonus. Oh yes, the hotel was very good too.

Room Tip: If you wish to experience this grand place on a holiday weekend book early!

Stayed for one-night in a king room and was impressed by the room's size and very comfortable bed and furnishings. Quiet, elegant and well-appointed. Make sure you stop off in the Palm Room for a drink. Location was fantastic as we walked behind the hotel to the river-walk, under the bridge then were at the Forks for dinner. Excellent breakfast the next morning. Would stay again.
