It is a large, modern facility set up for the meeting, wedding reception and convention trade. By and large they serviced our music symposium very well, except for kerfuffles with breakfasts and special diets.
If you have attended a convention at a large airport hotel virtually anywhere in the world you will find little unique here. It's easy to feel a little cooped up. Not a lot of windows or connection to the world outside ... and when you do step outside, it's in to the asphalt - and - light industrial world of the periphery of any other airport. On the plus side ... close to the terminal. On the minus ... far from shopping, restaurants, green spaces.
Service --- 5. Thanks to the very friendly front desk staff who lent access to the baggage lock-up for my bicycle. Also for local knowledge like bike routes and the swimming pool.
Value --- 4 $129 + tax convention room rate
Sleep Quality --- 5 good bed
Cleanliness --- 4 no dust bunnies, but took a couple of days for them to spot and clean up previous guest's (?) hair in bath tub.
Location --- 4 the good news - next to airport. Not so good news - near nothing of interest.
Rooms --- 5 good sized, well laid out and equipped.
Food --- 3 (this for the convention food) - lunches and the one dinner were good, nourishing, plentiful. One dinner in the on site restaurant was great. Conference breakfasts were erratic: omelettes one day, bagels and toast the next. Man does not live by bagel alone.
FOOD ALLERGY / INTOLERANCE ALERT: the convention food services were pretty clueless re: dairy free. Yes, gluten / nuts were labelled on the food service trays. But the options for actually getting some gluten / dairy free were few, and not known by serving staff.
Spa - we didn't try the water park but literally hundreds of guests, mostly children, were. It looks to be a winner. The actual swimming area in the pool would not do to swim laps (early or late, when the kids aren't barrelling down the water slide).
Reservations were handled as part of symposium Check-In was seamless and accurate. Our phoned-in request for a quiet room (5th floor) was honoured.
Noise: remarkably little noise from the adjacent airport, and that with the window, which thankfully opened, open.
Bathroom - hooray for a full sized bath tub, and for dual flush toilet.
Internet - best I have seen in a hotel. True high speed.
On the down side of "Technology", the high-tech digital phone / alarm clock / radio was undecipherable. Suggested to create a card - sized quick guide to unlock the trick to using it.
Coffee maker - Coffee maker supplied, but decaf' was absent. Hotel had run out of supplies, no result for 5 days.
TV channels - fancy high-tech digital TV, like the digital phone, was hard to operate. Hotel TV's that don't return you to the channel you last watched, rather to the ad channel for the hotel, are a pain in the butt. This must be the only Canadian hotel TV that did not get The Weather Network.
Fridge - in the room, mercifully quiet, effectively cold.
Check-Out and billing was quite seamless; billing was accurate.
