Whether you are a couple out for a walk, a family throwing around a frisbee or teens just wanting to get out, this Park is large enough for all. It has a new kiddie park area that is great for young families, you can visit the zoo (but you may wish to wait until the polar bear exhibit is complete) there are trails and roads to rollerblade and bike, fire pits for causal get togethers and is a wonderful area to walk your dog (just pick up after it please). In winter you can cross country ski or just walk through it and enjoy the evening. We live very close to this Park so we use it for the entertainment, restaurants and trails weekly. I love this place!

The English Garden is beautiful. The redeveloped duck pond is lovely with plenty of wildlife. The Children's Garden was great and very busy when we were there. There is a lot of construction at the Zoo. Many enclosures are being rebuilt, but in the future it should be a great place to go. Each summer there are special events to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. (Don't forget the bug spray)

Went to park with the Grand kids and they really enjoyed the park and the various animals. The park is layed out very well with the animals. Kids enjoyed feeding the peacocks and they wander the park freely. The new exhibits are very well done and pleasant for the animals.

Traveling on a budget with young children is easy at Assiniboine Park. The playground itself kept our children entertained for over an hour. We were impressed that this park used all recycled materials to create, and even had a sustainable veggie garden. We ventured behind the playground to a smooth walking trail around a duck pond, which leads to a reasonably priced café. Across the road from the café is a sculpture garden and a frog pond (with live frogs) and a sculpture museum. Sculptures were either on their own or embedded in one of the many impressive flower beds located within the garden. At the front of the park is the conservatory - another freebie, which included more flowers. There is also a zoo - we didn't have time to go - but the price is under $10. We have heard that they also have free movies in the summer - we would have liked to have seen that. You could easily pack a picnic lunch or purchase lunch at the café and spend the day in this lovely park.

Inside this park, which charges no admission to enter, is The Lyric Theatre. This is an outdoor stage, complete with sound system and lighting. Throughout the summer, free concert series are put on for the public to enjoy. Everyone brings lawn chairs or blankets to sit on the large grassed area. Some people even bring their dogs. Immediately at the front of the stage is a cement area where people often dance. There is a couple food stands and chair rentals available. I believe the charge for chair rentals is $2.00. Throughout the show, volunteers with butterfly nets go throughout the crowd collecting cash donations. The Leo Mol Sculpture Garden also has an entertainment series on certain days of the week. The Lyric Theatre offers free movies on Friday nights in August. This park has many other things to offer, including a zoo (admission required), children's play centre, restaurant, train rides, duck pond (which is used for skating on in the winter). Many people use the picnic areas for private parties. Assiniboine Park is a great place to spend the day & evening.
