Traveling on a budget with young children is easy at Assiniboine Park. The playground itself kept our children entertained for over an hour. We were impressed that this park used all recycled materials to create, and even had a sustainable veggie garden. We ventured behind the playground to a smooth walking trail around a duck pond, which leads to a reasonably priced café. Across the road from the café is a sculpture garden and a frog pond (with live frogs) and a sculpture museum. Sculptures were either on their own or embedded in one of the many impressive flower beds located within the garden. At the front of the park is the conservatory - another freebie, which included more flowers. There is also a zoo - we didn't have time to go - but the price is under $10. We have heard that they also have free movies in the summer - we would have liked to have seen that. You could easily pack a picnic lunch or purchase lunch at the café and spend the day in this lovely park.

Inside this park, which charges no admission to enter, is The Lyric Theatre. This is an outdoor stage, complete with sound system and lighting. Throughout the summer, free concert series are put on for the public to enjoy. Everyone brings lawn chairs or blankets to sit on the large grassed area. Some people even bring their dogs. Immediately at the front of the stage is a cement area where people often dance. There is a couple food stands and chair rentals available. I believe the charge for chair rentals is $2.00. Throughout the show, volunteers with butterfly nets go throughout the crowd collecting cash donations. The Leo Mol Sculpture Garden also has an entertainment series on certain days of the week. The Lyric Theatre offers free movies on Friday nights in August. This park has many other things to offer, including a zoo (admission required), children's play centre, restaurant, train rides, duck pond (which is used for skating on in the winter). Many people use the picnic areas for private parties. Assiniboine Park is a great place to spend the day & evening.

Natural beauty, many stimulating activities for kids, great walks. Not a lot of food options in my experience, maybe bring your own.

Don't miss this park when you're in Winnipeg. It's huge, with many attractions. It's currently undergoing a dramatic upgrade, especially the zoo area, so be patient, then visit once again when all the improvements have been completed! Allow lots of time for the zoo. There is a charge for the zoo.

Be sure to visit the (free) English Garden and the Leo Mol Sculpture garden, and have your camera handy. Both have leafy nooks where you can sit and rest while you take in the beauty around you.

There's a wonderful upscale restaurant in the beautiful pavilion, overlooking a lovely reflecting pool and pergola, or you can eat at the family-friendly Park Cafe overlooking the duck pond.

There are miles of walking paths, plus bicycle paths along the Assiniboine River. The kids love riding on the steam train.

I have a photo of me in Assiniboine Park when I was just a toddler, 70 years ago. During the intervening time I've enjoyed the park innumerable times and it's wonderful to see it evolve into something even better every year. Not to be missed! It's easy to spend a full day here.

Beautiful space with plenty of free parking. Good for all ages. Excellent walking and running - Green space with trees, gardens and open areas for cricket, soccer and frisbee. The pond has ducks in the summer and skating in the winter. The Park Cafe has a lovely fire place for winter warmth. The Leo Mol garden is directly across from the cafe and access for all mobilities. The Zoo is also park of the park.
