“Best Brunch”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

You really can't beat the value for your buck here. There are three brunch levels to choose from, although I don't know how anyone could handle more than the basic one. It consisted of the standard offering of complimentary mimosas, coffee, pastries, fruit plate, dessert and then your choice of entree. Service is suberb - get there as early as possible (we were there on a Sunday) - and you should probably have a reservation.

“Great location”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

We ate on the terrace at the back of pavilion restaurant. The Lobster and Shrimp salad roll was very tasty. The so called Carrot Cake was a very big disappointment. I could not taste the Cream Cheese in the frosting. Overall the cake has great visual on appear but sadly lack in flavour. A lunch for four people with a glass of wine each was $130.00

Lots of glass walls make for great views of the Park. My wife and I have eaten here many times and the food is always excellent.

“a warm, lovely scenic spot.”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Nestled in the park, stunning venue, beautiful sunny room, and a diverse tasty menu. What more could you want?

Our party's lunch included the lobster/shrimp baguette, quiche of the day, steak, carrot cake and creme brulee. All delicious. Friendly service.

Only complaint is the grimy restroom, but it is outside the restaurant in the pavilion. Not really their control?

“STUNNING Venue - Disappointing Service”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

My wife and I married in mid summer at the beautiful Terrace 55 in Assiniboine Park. We knew we wanted an outdoor venue, and we looked at several locations that we loved before coming to Terrace 55. The moment we stepped into the atrium and overlooked the terrace with the vines and the pond, we knew this was it. It was breathtakingly gorgeous without us even doing anything to decorate. The appointed Wedding Coordinator was very nice and accommodating, took notes on all our requests and assured us she'd handle all the details for our special day. But this perfect venue did come with its challenges.
Firstly, our Wedding Coordination changed hands 3 times during the year leading up to our wedding. And the information was not passed succinctly between each successor. This presented a problem not only because we had to re-iterate our requests, but certain details that were promised to us at the start were no longer honoured [ie. permission to shoot video from the balcony, serving our guests mimosas, gerber daisies on the window sills]. Changes occurred right to the wedding day including no longer wishing to do a tuxedo fold with our 2-toned napkins, this promise was made by our current wedding coordinator. They did complete this task after I expressed my disappointment to the manager.
The food is absolutely delicious at Terrace 55, and they catered to our custom menu idea. They took our suggestion and served us a sample meal to see if they got it right - it was perfect! However, the entree served at our wedding was not the same dish as we had at our taste test. The salad was different, the portion size was much smaller and even the pasta was different. Terrace argues that it was the same recipe, and to an extent I agree; Linguini and Lasagna is the same noodle recipe, but they are NOT the same. One recommendation I have for future couples, it to photograph the sample meal and confirm that portion size and all elements will be the same in the wedding. I assumed that the sample meal was a replica of the meal that would be served at the wedding. On the bright side, the meal was good. Not great, but good. And the guests still really enjoyed the meal, but they don't know how great the meal could have been.
Terrace 55 also has a minimum price point one must meet to book your event there. We were on the cusp of this amount, thus we instructed the coordinator, if we are under our minimum amount, to serve appetizers. They have some amazing hors d'eourve options. We were under, and no appetizers were served.
The wedding coordinators at Terrace 55 were pleasant enough on the surface, but after repeated issues, it was made clear, the only one at Terrace that actually appeared to care about our experience was the manager. Although these concerns were raised with management, no apology was offered for any of the mix-ups, only excuses. Any other company that relies so heavily on the customer experience would have done something additional to improve our experience, but Terrace did not feel the customer's experience was a valid concern.
Overall, despite disappointing service and delivery, the wedding was still beautiful and the guests had a great time. I advise future couples to be very careful and diligent if deciding to go with this picturesque venue.
