The inside was nice, original wood and a lot of details by the owner to make u feel at home
Nice towels, bedding, extras like shampoo etc
The most amazing breakfast.
The ugly: the place has been allowed to let go. Half painted areas, plywopd nailed to exterior walls and contruction materials just laying around the exterior.
The worst: april, the owner, never stopped talking. Sorry april but you talked to me in total for 3 hours over 2 full days , in the early morni g when i tried to read, at breakfast when we tried to eat, in the evening as we tried to sit . I know everything about u but u know absolutely nothing about me.
When u have people eating , please back away.
We will never be back. The last morning, april talked so much that us and another couple left with out our main breakfast item.
Fantastic place with a more dedicated and knowledgeable owner.
Ps: first time ever have i done a review like this

Initially, you were a “no show” booking, which is a breach of etiquette but we did not charge you, and we do thank you for the phone call the day after requesting another booking which we allowed.
My apologies for the outdoor renovations still happening during your stay.  Unfortunately, in Winnipeg, we must take advantage of any summer weather for outdoor work.  In this instance, we were renovating our driveway and had just installed a brand-new front deck with Douglas fir flooring. As you noticed this 111-year-old house still requires further attention.
It is an ongoing labor of love, not one of disregard.
Yes, we do try to provide a full, gourmet breakfast and for those who are dining or sitting alone, I am quite happy to try to keep them company. In any case the house is large enough to easily find spots for peace and quiet including your room which has a private balcony.
One of our greatest pleasures is meeting and discovering the backgrounds of our guests and I learned from you about your very extensive and knowledgeable farming background. The fact that in agriculture we are producing too much food was quite an eye-opener for me as was the observation that farming on a big scale has become extremely complicated.  Learning also that your company purchases land for the simple process of spreading pig manure is extraordinary but very interesting, so thank you for that information.
I regret you were not as interested in my stories but most of our guests apparently enjoy our interactions as expressed in other reviews.

Stayed at the Columns for 4 nights last week. It is my preferred place to stay when I am on business in Winnipeg, as it has all the amenities I look for in a hotel, with the added comforts and familiarity of a home.

The facility itself is beautifully restored and presented. I find it to have the feel of an Inn, more so than a B&B. It is majestic, graceful, comfortable and welcoming—with plenty of space in the rooms and common areas.

Things I particularly enjoy are the high quality bed linens (that add to a lovely night’s sleep); the generous supply of plush towels; and, the incredible array of freshly made foods to choose from each morning. See pictures included.

Located just off Sherbrooke Street, it allows for a quiet neighbourhood location that is close to amenities. A selection of excellent cafés and restaurants are just around the corner. I recommend this place as an excellent accommodations choice for anyone who is in the area for business or leisure.

Room Tip: Many room configurations available. Inquire about the options, to find the fit for you.

We came to Winnipeg to see Jackson Browne in concert. The concert was great, The Columns was so very nice. The weather outside wasn't the best but inside was so very warm and comfortable. Aprils breakfasts are to die for! Anything and everything you can imagine, all well prepared and presented beautifully. We hope to return to Winnipeg again and definitely hope to stay at The Columns. Thank you for your hospitality, April and Diamond!

We stayed at The Columns for three nights in January, 2017 and had a fantastic experience. We would advise everyone that this place is "as advertised"- and maybe better! The house is beautiful, with dark wood trim and floors throughout and very well-kept and clean. Our room was spacious and had a comfy, large bed (with plenty of covers/blankets and an electric blanket). The bathroom was huge, clean and had lots of towels. It's located in a neighborhood of large old houses which is close to downtown and the rivers. We didn't walk anywhere (a good thing in -17F degree weather!) but could easily have walked to The Forks and the center of town in 10+ minutes. The breakfasts alone were worth the trip. There was an entire sideboard of items in the dining room- pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal/granola, cheese, etc. as well as really excellent coffee and tea- and then we were offered a fresh-made, hot cooked-to-order "entree" (omelet, quiche, eggs Benedict) that was different each day. Talk about being spoiled! But the best feature of our visit was our charming host and hostess. Diamond and April were friendly, gracious and helpful. Diamond is a recently retired doctor and has a fascinating life history. And April has, I think, some connection to everything and everyone in the city and province! They gave good advice about what to do and a particularly good restaurant recommendation. We really enjoyed our morning chats. These are exactly the kind of folks who should have a B&B and their warmth of personality and friendliness added immensely to our visit. Highly recommended to everyone as a friendly, interesting place to stay!

We are dedicated "B&B'ers" and have stayed in about 40 in 12 US states and two Canadian provinces. This was one of the very best. It is a Heritage home built in 1906 and located in Armstrong Circle on the Assiniboine River. It is the family home where the innkeepers raised their three children. The breakfasts were excellent with a mixture of European and US foods, wonderfully presented. It was easy to do an early breakfast if necessary, something we have not found available with most of the B&B's we've stayed. We had our own balcony in a corner room overlooking the front walk. It was very quiet and comfortable. A wonderful back porch (it would be a lanai in Hawaii!) for relaxing. It is within walking distance of good casual restaurants. Parking is sometimes difficult with the narrow streets, but we always managed to find room in their available spaces and didn't have to park in the street. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms on 2nd and 3rd floors, so be aware of hauling luggage
