“Cremated offerings!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

No, this is not a new title for a Stephen King novel!

It had been a while since we visited the Boathouse and we wanted to wait until the Landry's acquisition had been completed. So we tried the Boathouse White Rock again last week. What a disaster! We decided to split some items from the menu, an order of calamari, an order of halibut & chips and a ceasar salad. Plus a bottle of wine.

We asked for all the food to be served at the same time as we wanted to share everything. The calamari was served first and was completely burned to a crisp. Immediately came the salad, totally drenched in dressing. Then the halibut, which was not only a very small portion, but as burned as the calamari. So we sent back the calamari and halibut. We figured we could scrape off the dressing, so kept the salad. Thank goodness the wine was fine.

After waiting a while we were served the calamari and halibut. This time the calamari was undercooked and the halibut wasn't halibut, it was cod.

The server, who was in training, offered to ask the Manager to come over and after a considerable wait she arrived. She comp'd the food, but didn't seem too aware we were pretty unhappy. She said she would ask the executive chef to contact me the next day. I didn't receive the call!

Obviously there are still many wrinkles to be ironed out since the acquisition!

We always take visitors from out of town to this location. The view is wonderful and our visitors are always impressed by the menu and friendly staff.

“Not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

We recently had friends visiting from Australia and decided that would be a great place to take them for dinner....NOT! The location is great and the waitress was on the bit however for what you get and the price you pay is not worth it. The food is OK but had better at other restaurants in that neighbourhood.
It had been a long time since we had been there & I guess this was our farewell visit.

Great food, fabulous views, a little expensive but you have to realize that you just can't get this location everywhere.

“Overrated!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

The Boathouse has a brilliant location but the food and service won't entice me back. Mediocre food, overpriced and disorganized, slow service by poorly trained and groomed waiting staff. The restaurant is also badly in need of a major makeover.

Spend your money elsewhere!
