“Bring back the mushroom soup!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

Used to be 5-stars, but now that the tuna melt and mushroom soup are gone, it's just average. I looked forward to getting the soup at least (tuna melt has been gone for years though you can kind of make your own) each time we go up to Whistler. Just this past March we had it! Then, for New Years, we were shocked to see it replaced with a mediocre squash soup. Greatly disappointed as I don't get mushroom soup anywhere else but here (and at Wildflower upstairs). We used to visit for lunch at least 2-3 times during our week long stays. This past week, we didn't get anything! Business lost. BRING BACK THE MUSHROOM SOUP!

“Awful, absolutely awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Portbello was recommended to us by a friend who lives and works in Whistler. We went for breakfast on News Years Day, our first breakfast of 2013 and it was a truely awful experience. Our son chose the breakfast bagel which at best was mediocre, the bacon was cold and had been cooked long before it was served. My husband and I chose the breakfast plate, the plate was warm, but the food was cold and elements of the plate were missing. How can you miss bacon off a breakfast plate? I returned both plates to the duty manager, who felt the plates and said they were not cold, I explained the food was cold and he took them from me, saying he would warm them up. The plates were returned 10 minutes later, he said they had been fresh made and whilst they did now have bacon on them, the food was only luke warm, and on moving the slices of toast on my husband's plate we realised there was a bite missing from one slice. At no point did anyone check that we were okay with the returned breakfast, we left the food and the restaurant and will not return. This is not the sort of service or quality of food we expect from a Fairmont Restaurant, and we will not be returning, or recommending it at all.

“Excellent food and nice atmosphere”

Portebellos is always one of my daugther's and my favorite places to stop for lunch when we visit Whistler. We love their chicken pesto pizza. Their muffins and cupcakes are also very tasty and fresh.

“Unlike any other 'sandwich bar' in the world!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

It's a pretty simple formula - great quality ingredients, cheerful and professional staff, and a 'all you want to put on it' pricing strategy for a huge sandwich. The sandwiches are so generously put together, and everything that goes on them is of a very high quality . You can eat in, or pack up your sandwich and head to a beautiful outdoor spot to enjoy. Whatever you choose, you'll be pretty happy you've got a Portobello's sambo with you! Even if you are staying in Whistler Village, it's worth the wander to the upper village just for a sandwich, I promise!
