“Great for smaller groups”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

We stayed in one of the six bed suites (two doubles and bunk beds) as four adults and two kids and found it ideal for us. Location is very good, with a shuttle run to the ski lift area if you want to avoid the 4 min walk! The suite was well laid out, gave us all plenty of space and the kitchen was good, enabling us to comfortably cook a range of decent meals for 6 people. The fire place is a nice touch too, with logs for sale at reception, to give a christmas feel of sitting round the fire.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, any questions we had were fully answered and if they had their own recommendations or ideas about where to eat etc, they shared them too.

If you are looking for somewhere comfy, practical and with friendly staff near the ski slopes, this is a good place start. Whilst it is not on the main street where the shops and bars are, it also means that you have a good nights sleep in peace and quiet!

We came here on a "mystery" booking and were very pleased.
We were upgraded to a two bedroom that was fabulous. Kitchen was very well stocked- previous reviews stated otherwise! Lots of extras. Friendly staff. Free toboggans. Pet area. And a nice loop around driving range to walk your dog. Free shuttle to town but close enough to walk back and forth. We enjoyed the tubing- easy and fun access. Took free Excalibur lift from whistler over to base two where tubing park was. And spent another afternoon snowshoeing at Olympic park that was totally amazing and everyone's favorite of the trip. Only negative was hard beds and no tv in master bedroom. Thanks tantalus!

I would generally describe the Tantalus as adequate. The location is the best feature to me -- it's a short walk to the lifts (particularly if you take advantage of the ski check in the Carelton Lodge and aren't carrying your skis) but not right in the village, which we liked. They also run a very convenient van the couple of hundred yards of the walk. The size of the unit was fine for my family of five and generally in good conditions. The bathrooms were new and very clean. The bed was fine -- not the best I've ever had, but not the worst.

There were two bigger negatives to me. The kitchen was very poorly stocked, particulary given we had five and the room was suppose to be large enough for six. One frying pan, no colendar for draining pasta, no tea kettle, a barely working toaster, a vegetable peeler that didn't work, no paper towels. We were told we would get these things had we booked a more expensive suite. Really? These things like seem like basic things that even the least expensive room should have. The other negative was the location of the pool and hot tub -- across the parking lot. Very uninviting.

On the positive side, the staff was very hard working, although my sense is that they didn't have enough staff. One housekeeper went well beyond her call of duty to try to get some more kitchen supplies for us. She was terrific.

All in all, if we ski at Whistler again, I would probably stay elsewhere.

My family of 6 stayed at Tantalus for Christmas this year and the suite we booked was more than accomodating. Hotel has a ski locker, outdoor heated pool/hot tub ( you're allowed to bring beverages down in the hotels plastic cups), outdoor and covered parking (also has over height parking for us truck drivers), and you can purchase fire logs for your in-suite fireplace. Spacious and relatively modern (granite, tv,cable etc.) Hotel is also pet friendly for an additional fee. Close to helipad, the lifts and village (within 5 min.)

The Tantalus lodge was one of the cheaper choices available to stay a few nights in Whistler. Comparatively still expensive though.

The hotel room was adequate with full equipped kitchen. The sofa bed was below par, very thin but the room was nice enough.

The staff were very good and helpful at all times. The hot tubs are also very good.

There is a shuttle available to get to village as it is a short walk over the hill which can be difficult in ski boots. Fairly long walk to hotel from bus stop, which is a negative.

Would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel property recently and booked into one of the premier 2-bedroom suites with kitchen. It was a perfect stay for us. The kitchen is well-equipped, including coffee make and complimentary coffee bags each day, dishwasher, microwave, range and fridge. Quite a nice open concept kitchen with granite counter tops.

The beds were comfortable and it was great having to full washrooms with tubs/showers. A full complement of towels, shampoo and soap was provided in each. The living room also featured a fireplace, which we did not use as it required logs (ie. not gas). In summer, this unit with its two balconies would be wonderful, too.

Although not in the heart of Whistler Village, it is only a short walk away. The only recommendation I would make is that when booking if distance to the elevator is important and stairs, make sure you mention that to the agent. Internet was also included in our booking.

Room Tip: They have a reasonable pet fee if you are bringing fido with you. They charge a one-time fee as opp...

This down to earth hotel is my regular place to stay in Whistler because it is a short walk to the lifts if you don't use the frequent and friendly shuttle. Quiet on one side and pool action from balconies on outside.
I don't want to pay for a glitzy, pretentious hotel. At Tantalus I know I can have a cracking fire while we make homemade dinner.
The staff are helpful and relaxed enough to share smiles and jokes.
Not luxury but you get what you pay for and this place is clean and comfortable.
